Project 3. Develop an action Plan and System Infrastructure Design Plan

Task 1. List hardware requirements for the network installation and give brief decoupling for each item

Hardware requirements for the installation of computer network

S/ Items Required Explanation

No

1 Servers Server is a powerful computer that is installed and configured with Network Operating system to manage
network resources. There might be the requirement of 1 or more servers in the university based on

 Number of users to be served

 Number of workstations to be managed

2 Workstations/ Desktop computers are client computers to be served and connected to the server to use resources used
desktop computers through the networking system

3 WiFi Access Point WiFi-Wireless Fidelity is an access point that is used to connect to the Internet without the use of Network
cable for Laptop, Mobile user.

4 ADSL Router ADSL Router is a hardware that is required to disseminate Internet Service from Internet Service Provider,
it is a sources for Internet Access

5 Cat 6 and/or above A commonly used network cable to interconnect computers and other network hardware like routers,
Twisted Pair cable switches and ADSL routers so that all shared resources will be accessed by concerned requests

6 Fiber Optic Cable A fast network cable that is used to bring Internet Services from its source Internet Service provider to the
client
7 Switches A hardware to interconnect computers on the network so that they communicate on the network

8 Routers A hardware used to interconnect networks that may use different medias, different protocols

Project 2

Task 1. Identify Expected risks of the university regarding the use of ICT resources

Risks Preventive Options Recovery Options

Hardware failure  Keep away computers  Take regular backup

from dusts
 Prepare alternate backup site
 Clean computers regularly

Theft  Use security alarms for

hardware

 Lock portable computers in

dock stations

Fire  Early smoke detection  Regularly backup your data

and voltage
 Keep alternative sites for backup
disconnection systems
 Mirroring for insurance of damaged resources
 Use fire extinguisher

 Keep away things that

may cause fire in the
technology rooms

 Check every time for loose

connections that may
cause fire

 Do not use dividers that

shorts, sparks when
connected

Human error  Devise policies, rules,  Redundant file recovery system

procedures and regulation
 Move deleted files to some recoverable locations
of using technology

 Allow only power users to

modify, change, move or
change files

 Train and capacitate IT

staff and employees

 Set access control -

right to use information
and systems based on
business and security
needs, specifically
controlling who can do
what with your
information resources

Flood  Use ground plus buildings

instead of grounds for ICT
technology

 Use racks and stairs to set

hardware instead of
putting computers and
servers on desktops
