Sustainable Development Goals
Sustainable Development Goals
Set of goals established by the United Nation (UN) in 2015 as a part of the 2030
Agenda for Sustainable Development.
1. No Poverty
- Goal: Eradicate extreme poverty globally
- Reason: Over 700 million people live on less than $1.90 a day, leading to hunger,
inequality and lack of opportunities. This goal aims to ensure everyone has access
to basic needs.
2. Zero Hunger
- Goal: End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote
sustainable agriculture.
- Reason: Hunger affects millions, particularly children. Sustainable food systems
are essential for growing global population.
3. Good Health and Well-being
- Goal: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
- Reason: Millions die from preventable diseases. The goal addresses healthcare
access, disease prevention, and global health crises.
4. Quality Education
- Goal: Provide inclusive an equitable education and promote lifelong learning
opportunities.
- Reason: Education is a cornerstone for breaking the cycle of poverty and
empowering individuals.
5. Gender Equality
- Goal: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
- Reason: Women and girls face systemic discrimination and violence. Gender
equality is crucial for societal progress.
6. Clean Water and Sanitation
- Goal: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for
all.
- Reason: Over 2 billion people lack safe drinking water, leading to diseases and
death.
7. Affordable and Clean Energy
- Goal: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
- Reason: Energy is essential for economic development, but reliance on fossil fuels
harm the environment.
8. Decent Work and Economic Growth
- Goal: Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment, and
decent work.
- Reason: Billions face unemployment or unsafe working conditions, slowing
economic progress.
9. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
- Goal: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive industrialization, and foster
innovation.
- Reason: Infrastructure gaps hinder economic development and technological
innovation.
10. Reduced Inequalities
- Goal: Reduce inequality within and among countries.
- Reason: Economic disparity and discrimination limit opportunities for marginalized
communities.
11. Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Goal: Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
- Reason: Rapid urbanization increases slums, pollution and resource depletion.
12. Responsible Consumption and Production
- Goal: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
- Reason: Overconsumption strains the planet’s resources and increases waste and
pollution.
13. Climate Action
- Goal: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impact.
- Reason: Climate change causes extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and
ecological damage.
14. Life Below Water
- Goal: Conserve and sustainably use ocean, seas, and marine resources.
- Reason: Oceans face threats from pollution, overfishing, and climate change.
15. Life on Land
- Goal: Protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems,
combat desertification, halt deforestation, and preserve biodiversity.
- Reason: Deforestation, desertification, and species loss harm ecosystems and
human livelihoods.
16. Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
- Goal: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies, provide access to justice, and build
effective institutions.
- Reason: Corruption, violence, and lack of justice prevent sustainable development.
17. Partnerships for the Goals
- Goal: Strengthen global partnership for sustainable development.
- Reason: Collaboration between nations, sectors, and individuals is essential for
achieving these ambitious goals.
