HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL It was in 1966 when Juanito Cael, the late barangay captain, who
conferred with Mr. Lorenzo Naya, the district principal, about the importance of the opening a
barangay high school in the place, Plaridel. Mr. Naya, and the barangay officials, immediately called
a PTA meeting. They discussed the problem about opening of a barangay high school. The
Plarideliños were very much interested, that, it resulted to the construction of one classroom besides
the elementary building, where the first year class was organized with 73 enrollees and was
pioneered by Miss Natividad Delagente. Mrs. Asuncion Merca was given a part time subject with an
honorarium of Php50.00 monthly teaching Home Economics Class for first year. The following year,
the second year class was opened with Mr. Juanito Sosmeñia as the adviser. Since the enrolment
kept on increasing, complete secondary level was offered, where some of the elementary teachers
were hired as a part time teacher like Mr. Solamo – CAT Commandant, Mr. Timoteo Manigo –
Practical Arts Agriculture teacher, Mrs. Clotilde Ang – first year teacher, Tita Sumabong – second
year adviser, Miss Sofronia Valeroso – third year adviser, Mr. Benjamin Dacera – fourth year
adviser, and Alicia V. Manigo as a part time teacher in English. First batch of graduates were only 27
and because of the increasing populace in the school, a Marcos Type and Nursery Building of the
elementary were also occupied. The first CAT unit was being established by Mr. Juanito Sosmeñia
as the instructor. In 1970-1971, Mr. Benjamin Dacera became CAT Commandant of the CAT – I
Unit. Plaridel Barangay High School is known not only for its well-competent teachers, well-
structured classrooms, well-maintained gardens and plaza, but also maintains its rank as one of the
top ten in NCEE, Leyte Division. Because of these achievements, students from neighboring
barangay flocked and enrolled in our school, thus increasing the number of teachers to seven
classes, thereby creating the position of a SSHT in 1981. It was the first school head position in
barangay high school throughout Leyte Division through the recommendation of Mr. Francisco
Muserio and Manuel Dacera, barangay captain. It was in 1981 where the Plaridel Barangay High
School started its independent operation from that of the elementary with enrollment of 308. With
Mrs. Victoria C. Orapa, the head of the Plaridel Barangay High School, her exemplary leadership
gives the Plaridel Barangay High School more honors, glory and from that Plaridel Barangay High
School became popular in the whole region. Because of its high outstanding achievements
especially during the academic competition given by the division, regional and national level, the
school is independent from elementary level. With the leadership of Mrs. Orapa and with the help of
the PTA in 1988, a new Home Economics Building was made with the water sealed toilet and of
course with connection of water faucets. There were seven kiosks constructed by the students
around the big plaza that servers as a study place for the students and it also give beauty to the
school. In the year 1990, two classrooms were constructed. These were given by the provincial
government and presently occupied by the fourth year students. By November 1990, the typhoon
Rufing struck. Temporary classrooms with “nipa” roof were blown away, thus, suspending the
classes for how many days. With the aid of the province, classrooms again stood up and concreted
– supervised by Paquita Yap, the barangay captain. It was in the year 1991 when the school
received bountiful blessings. A four million SEDP Building was constructed. The actual start of the
construction was on September 24, 1991. This was a reward from the DECS for the excellent
performance both in academic and curricular activities as well as community relationship to the
school. The SEDP package composes of four big classrooms, one library, one science room, and
one THE room, one administration office with complete equipment and furniture. Three additional
teachers were given appointment in the school year 1991-1992. Thus, summing up to fifteen active
