1. Intoduction

This UPS is to be used only in restricted access locations.

The UPS operates automatically and protects connected equipment against disturbances and power
failures of the vessel’s mains. During mains power failure the UPS will continue to operate independently
for at least 30 minutes by means of internal battery.
The UPS is an uninterruptible power supply unit for general use on board vessels.
The UPSs are delivered in two variants depending on the input voltage and output capacity as follows:
115V / 3kVA
230V / 3kVA
The UPSs are delivered completely assembled in crates and are ready to be installed without any pre-
assembly.

2. Safety information

Since the UPS unit operates on line power and contains a bank of high-current backup batteries, the
information in this chapter is important to all personnel involved. Please read the safety manual provided
with this UPS.

WARNING!
Do not open the UPS cabinet. Some components inside the UPS cabinet carry high voltage. To
touch them may prove fatal. All operations inside the unit must be carried out only by authorized
personnel only.

This UPS contains it’s own energy source (batteries). The output may carry live voltage even
when the UPS is not connected to an AC supply.

User’s operations
The only user’s operations permitted are:

Line Failure test /Battery capacity test:

Capacity test on site can only be carried out after the batteries are fully charged. Batteries are fully
charged if charging voltage 2,27 V/cell or 108 VDC ± 2 VDC has been applied for more than 48 hours.
For battery test it is preferred to use the load that the UPS normally is supposed to support. If no load is
connected or is not available, an external load bank must be connected to the UPS. The external load
bank should have the same kW rating as for the normal load.
While doing the battery test the DC-voltage of the battery bank must be monitored. The battery test may
run until the battery run time is achieved, or to the battery voltage drops to low voltage level.
The battery voltage low level is monitored from the UPS and there is no risk of deep discharging of
batteries from the UPS.

Battery low alarm limit is user configurable setting. As a default the alarm is triggered when the batteries
are discharged and there is about 3 minutes of backup time left. Other options are: [2min], [5 min] or
[Immediate]. When [Immediate] is selected “Battery low” alarm is activated at the same time with “UPS on
battery” notice
Battery cut off limit : 80 VDC

Procedure verifies if battery takes over and supports load uninterruptedly in case of mains shut down.
