 Train pass that allows pass holders to travel in 28 European countries on nearly all European
railroads and some shipping lines.
 Allows any number of journeys through trains for limited days in specific countries.
 Only available outside Europe to Non-Europeans.
 Trips should be planned before hand to buy the most appropriate Eurail since they are specific
to the number of countries you can visit.
Refer - http://www.eurail.com/eurail-passes/find-the-best-pass

8
Recommended travel Passes

 Eurail Global Pass: is the flexible train pass for freedom-seekers and adventurers. It
gives you access to rail networks in 28 countries in Europe.
The Global Pass (very popular) –
o 5 or more European countries
o Up to 5 FREE travel days if you buy before September 30
o Cost : 75000 for 3 months

 France Rail for Local travel: is a flexible train pass for travel in France only
Cost: 5000- 25000 (depending on choice of travel and dates).
Advantages of traveling with a rail pass –
o Cost effective – Beneficial in the case where you are planning to take three or more trips
as compared to individual train tickets and thus the savings increase with increasing trips.
o The second benefit of a rail pass is flexibility. With most train tickets, you have to decide
on your train, date and time of travel in advance. You can buy a rail pass with only a
vague idea of your overall itinerary.
Salient Point: The France Rail Pass allows you unlimited travel on the entire France railway
network at a fixed price.
(See ‘Things to know’ for more information about seat reservations)
Disadvantages of travelling with a rail pass over single passes –
o Single passes (buying online or at the ticket counter as you go) are best suited for when
too much ground is not to be covered (Singe trips).
o If your travel plans aren’t set in stone, and you’re looking for the freedom to pick a new
destination whenever the mood strikes you, buying as you go makes sense.

Life on campus
The HEC campus is one of the largest in Europe. It counts 300 acres, located between Paris and
Versailles in a suburban town called Jouy-en-Josas. All the facilities are designed to create a
dynamic and supportive environment to help students to better achieve their goals.
Around the campus, besides the 1600 accommodation, you can find:
 3 restaurants and 2 cafeterias
 a wooden park and a lake
 an infirmary

Within the academic equipment they offer:

• A lecture hall with 500 seating capacity and an auditorium with 250 seating capacity
• 29 lecture theaters with 50 seats, of which 4 are equipped with iTunesU video recording
equipment.
• 14 lecture theaters with 20 to 48 seating capacity.
• 80 classrooms with 10 to 50 seating capacity.
• 3 language labs and a language resource center.
• 2 business bookshops.
• A multimedia resource center with 60,000 books, 764 journal, 50 database subscriptions
• A trading room (in collaboration with Thomson Reuters).

Sports ground

Sports covers an important role in the campus: 1600 m2 area is dedicated to indoor sports:
climbing wall, fitness room, dance, ping-pong, dojo, karate, aerobics and yoga, while 10000 m 2 are
appointed to outdoor activities including a rugby pitch, two soccer fields, four tennis courts, an
athletic field and a golf practice range. Moreover, the university organizes off-site sports such as
rowing, riding, skiing, sailing and golf. Finally, there isn’t a pool in the campus but it is possible to
access to the Polytechnic School’s swimming pool.
Exchange students can join these activities if they can provide a medical certificate (signed by
student’s local doctor) and after the payments of a 25€ (approx.1900 rupee) fee at the HEC Sport
Office.

Student organizations (Associations)

HEC gives the chance to its exchange students to take part in one of the 130 associations run by
the students. Apart from counterparts of the career clubs like Beta and Niche in IIM Ahmedabad
some of the unique clubs in particular –
 HEC International Society - is a club whose purpose is to help the international students to
interact with the French ones. This objective is purposed through events such as welcome
week, Discover France week-ends and other activities on and off the campus.
 Wine and Spirits Club - a social club looking to help students learn about the world of wine
and spirits, especially while living in France. Its events include tastings, as well as occasional
speaker events that can help students learn more about the business and culture of alcohol.
 Luxury Club - with its mission to engage, support and inspire members as they navigate the
increasingly dynamic luxury environment. The activities are underpinned by the objective of
connecting members with the industry and providing a platform for industry insight,
knowledge sharing and access to brands and influencers within the sector.

12
Food and other services

The main university restaurant has 650 seats and serves meals including both lunch and dinner.
Moreover, the cafeterias serve hot and cold beverage but also sandwiches, pizzas and appetizers.
Finally, close to the campus, there is a fairly sized supermarket and a pizza restaurant.
Across the street from the university you can also find a hairdresser and a beauty salon. If you are
looking for other shops and service, such as postal, pharmacy, banks, bakery and other restaurant
you can easily find them downtown. Consider that a dinner in Paris costs 40€ on average.

Career Service
As the first ranked business school in France, HEC receives internship offers constantly which may
be opened to exchange students under certain conditions (length, visa, period of the year). HEC
Career Center organizes several forums every year: ‐ October: Forum Finance, Forum Juridique
(tax and law). November: Forum Conseil (consulting), January: Carrefour HEC (all sectors), Forum
Alumni (Recruiting Alumni).
Moreover, you can rely on the career office that will help you with any requests and lead you
through the French procedures to find a job. Throughout the year, the office sends many emails to
the students about internship opportunities and particular events related to the job placements.
