‫بسم ا الرحن الرحيم‬

Dr. Bill Barrick explained very well,

Here I have picked some important points from this lecture and
I’m sharing with you sir, I will explain by numbers.

The first one is;

1. Focus on Biblical Hebrew: The course emphasizes classical

Biblical Hebrew rather than modern Hebrew, including its
pronunciation and script, which differs significantly from modern
Hebrew.

2. Course Objectives: students are expected to;

 Identify basic grammatical elements in Hebrew scripture.

 Read and pronounce Biblical Hebrew aloud.
 Translate simple sentences from the Old Testament.

3. Script and Vocabulary: The course uses classical Hebrew script,

which is not the same as modern Hebrew script but rather a form
of Aramaic script adopted after the Babylonian exile.

4. Textbook and Workbook Usage: The course relies on a

grammar textbook written by Dr. Barrick and Dr. Busenitz, along
with a workbook for assignments, which contribute significantly
to the overall grade.

5. Importance of Participation: Active participation, including

answering questions and engaging in class activities, is a
mandatory part of the grade, reflecting the need for consistent
preparation.

6. Learning Strategy: The course minimizes rote memorization,

focusing on understanding Hebrew grammar and structure.
Students only memorize one verb paradigm as a foundation for
learning others.

7. Spiritual and Practical Relevance: Studying Biblical Hebrew is

presented not just as an academic exercise but as a way to
engage with the spiritual and theological depth of the Old
Testament.

8. Significance of Original Languages: Dr. Barrick highlights the

importance of learning Hebrew to access the Bible in its original
form, avoiding errors and biases of translations.

9. Integrating Songs and Mnemonics: Songs and mnemonic

devices are used to aid memorization and reinforce vocabulary.

10. Broader Goals: The ultimate aim of the course is to foster a

deeper appreciation for the Old Testament and to prepare
students for accurate teaching and preaching of scripture.
