Executive Summary

The expression "Women Entrepreneurship" includes a demonstration of business possession and


business creation that engages women monetarily and expands their monetary quality & position
in the public eye. Notwithstanding all the social obstacles, Indian women stand tall from
whatever remains of the swarm and are commended for their commitments to their separate field
and the economy overall. The shrouded entrepreneurial capability of women has step by step
been changing their part and monetary status in the general public. Women are progressively
being aware of their presence & their rights. Then again, New Industrial strategy and other
schemes are helping the women entrepreneurs in the form of generation of employment, income
and to improve their social status. Enterprise is the element methodology of making incremental
riches. These riches are made by people who expect the real dangers as far as value, time and
vocation responsibility of giving quality to some item or administration. Practically speaking,
business enterprise alters the course of national economies, commercial ventures or markets. It
launches new items and creates associations and methods for generation to make them attractive.
We need to gather an army of women business people, who can roll out critical subjective
improvements in the financial scenes of the nations, “There is a great need to educate women
entrepreneurs for the nation’s development and overall growth of the economy in India.
Presently not only are women generating employment for themselves in the organized and
unorganized sector, they are also providing employment to others in the society. Government
should also provide the necessary planning for the development. Government should encourage
promoting women’s economic empowerment which will be a driving force in the economic
growth and the fight against Poverty in India. Corporations also are now gearing up for the
management of home grown women entrepreneurs with creative schemes which will prove
sustainable for the benefit of women empowerment in India.

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION

Introduction

Women Entrepreneurs could also be defined as the women or a group of women who initiate,
organize and operate a business enterprise. A woman entrepreneur is therefore a confident,
artistic and innovative woman desiring economic independence separately and at the same time
creating employment opportunities for others.
The Best Project No – 2 (2004) published by the European Commission defines a feminine
entrepreneur as a woman who has created a business during which she contains a majority
shareholding and who takes an active interest within decision-making, risk-taking and day-today
management.

The typical women businesses are primarily the extension of kitchen activities, which are
pickles, powder and pappad. owing to the varied governmental schemes and efforts of varied
voluntary organisations like Mahila Mandals, the number of women entrepreneurs is growing
however slowly. Considering the trend, their proportion in the upcoming 5 years is probably
going to rise to 20% raising the number of women entrepreneurs to about 5,00,000.

With the increase in the spread of education and awareness among the women entrepreneurs
have shifted from the extended kitchen activities, i.e., 3Ps to the upper level of activities, i.e.,
3Es. viz., Engineering, electronics and Energy. Though the amount of such units isn't large,
however it will be noted that women are putting up units to manufacture solar-cookers (Gujarat),
small foundries (Maharashtra), T.V. Capacitors (Odisha) and electronic ancillaries (Kerala).

It looks worthy to create a mention, after all


in short, of a number of the successful and
accomplished women entrepreneurs within
the country. Smt. Sumati Morarji of
Shipping Corporation, Smt. Yamutai
Kirloskar of Mahila Udyog restricted, Smt.
Neena Malhotra in exports and Smt.

Further, since the beginning of the National


Awards to small Entrepreneurs instituted in 1983, 10 women entrepreneurs have received special
recognition awards. They attributed their success to their hard working labour, perseverance,
purpose, determination, confidence in them and most significantly, their compelling urge of
desirous to do one thing positive in their lives.

Added to those was a man behind each successful woman. women entrepreneurs are having
many qualities like perseverance, hard work, patience, optimism, intelligence, etc. From
pharmaceutical companies to designing, women entrepreneurs are spread across sectors.

CHAPTER 2 REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Women Entrepreneurship in India- Problems and Prospects

Meenu Goyal, Jai Parkash analysed the educated Indian women have to go a long way to succeed
in equal rights and position as a result of traditions that are deep frozen in Indian society
wherever the social science originated has been a male dominated one. Despite all the social
hurdles, Indian women stand tall from the remainder of the gang and are applauded for their
achievements in their several fields. The transformation of social cloth of the Indian society, in
terms of increased academic standing of girls and varied aspirations for higher living,
necessitated an amendment within the life kind of Indian women. She has competed with man
and with success stood up with him in each walk of life and business isn't any exception for this.
These women leaders are assertive, persuasive and willing to require risks. They managed to
survive and achieve this cut throat competition with their labour, diligence and perseverance.
This paper endeavours to review the idea of women bourgeois–Reasons women become
entrepreneurs -Reasons for slow progress of women entrepreneurs in India - suggestions for the
expansion of women entrepreneurs-Schemes for promotion & development of women
entrepreneurship in India-Case study of a women entrepreneur of Ludhiana.

Concept of a woman entrepreneur

The role of women at the workplace has undergone a dramatic modification within the last 50
years, since as the view of entrepreneurships over the centuries. simply 5 decades ago, there have
been only a couple of women who world war and operated their own businesses. The Second
war brought more women into the workforce, however such accepted social values because the
male being the head of the house and women being dependent and staying inside didn't produce
an environment conducive for women to work unless there was a necessity.

Of late, women have tried to shed this ancient mould. Also, there are significant social, political,
and economic changes that have created opportunities for women furthermore as given them
greater acceptance and recognition within the company world. a woman entrepreneur includes a
woman or a group of women who initiate, organize, and operate a business enterprise.

Slowly they're creating their mark as business women and giving their male counterparts a run
for their cash. women entrepreneurs are on the Indian business scene for quite a while now and
have achieved remarkable success. However, their variety in reference to the overall number of
small scale enterprises is still very small. Worldwide too, the trend isn't considerably different.

In India, the need is currently definitely felt that women ought to likewise work outside the home
for improving expectations for everyday comforts for all. It is in this setting that the subject of
women ambitious people has taken new centrality particularly when unemployment has turned
into a matter of extraordinary sympathy toward all. Administration of India has acquainted the
strategy measures with advance the status and the level of female business people in the nation.
There has been an expanding turn in the number of women possessed undertakings in India, yet
regardless of government endeavours, considerable development couldn't be attained to. Not
very many ambitious people could approach the administration support which is the sign that
there is a need to revitalize the entire framework. Indeed following 65 years of autonomy women
in India are battling for entrepreneurial opportunity. That is the reason women as entrepreneurial
assets have not been broadly perceived in India. Furthermore, thus in today's situation of creating
country like India, the development of women business enterprise is extremely pivotal for
monetary as well as social upliftment of the nation. It is extremely fundamental to recognize
what the purposes behind ladies to settle on enterprise and what the significant sparks for their
development are and, in the meantime, what are the different requirements/issues women are
confronting in this adventure of business.

CHAPTER 6 RECOMMENDATIONS

The key policy recommendations to assist the women to participate in entrepreneurial activity
are as follows:

1. Guaranteeing the availability of reasonable child care and equal treatment at the workplace to
extend the ability of women to participate within the labour force

2. Improving the position of women in society and promoting entrepreneurship by creating easy
access of women to finance.

3. Creating government offices for women’s business possession with the responsibilities of
providing women’s business center, organizing information seminars and conferences, and
providing web-based information to those wanting to start and grow a business.

4. Incorporating a women’s entrepreneurial dimension within the formation of all SME-related


policies

5. Promoting towards development of women entrepreneur networks

6. Evaluating periodically the impact of SME-related policies on the success of women-owned


businesses and also the extent to that such businesses take advantage of them

7. Improving the factual and analytical support of our understanding of the role of women
entrepreneurs within the economy.

CHAPTER 7 CONCLUSION

Gender gap in entrepreneurship is one of the major research interests for most of the economic
researchers. Especially in an underdeveloped and developing economy it is firmly accepted that
women entrepreneurship is one best alternative to resolve the problems arising from poverty. Not
only that but it has the potential to create new jobs, nurture creativity and according to few
experts its greater female economic independence leads to geopolitical stability and world peace.
An enriched women entrepreneurship does not only prove to an economic solution but becomes
solution to various social retardations like crime against women (human trafficking, domestic
violence, glass ceiling and varied discriminatory practices etc) and engenders personal autonomy
and empowerment. In this research it studies the enabling factors, the important problems both
general and women specific and the prospective factors which according to the participating
women entrepreneurs have encouraged the women entrepreneurs to keep going in their business
endeavours. In the case of women entrepreneurs in India education, family and inner zeal and
will-power are vital enabling factors which elevate their motivation scale to perform in the state.
Most hurdles limiting factors have been dual roles in home and business, poor knowledge of
government support schemes, ignorance about banking procedures and formalities, poor
knowledge of financial management, lack of leisure time and lack of technological skills.
