Formation of comparative adjectives – page 57

I live in London. When I was younger, I lived in a small village in the country. It was safer than living
here, but it was more boring too. When we moved here, it was difficult for me to sleep. It’s noisier
here.
In the village, my school was near our house. Here in London my school is further away. When I lived
in the village I did a lot of sport, so I was fitter than I am now.

1
Hi, my name’s Jasmine. I’m 13 years old. I live in England now, but I’m from Australia. I came
to live here with my family three years ago. I was ten then. My dad got a job in a bank here. He
wanted to work in the United States, but he didn’t get a job there.
2
When we moved here, at first I hated it. It was colder than in Australia and the people were
more unfriendly here too. Then I started to go to school and I made friends. Things got better
after my first day at school.
3
When we first moved here we lived in a small flat in the town centre. I didn’t have my own
room – I shared with my sister. I didn’t like that. It was very noisy too because there was a big
market in front of the building.
4
Now we live in a big old-fashioned house in the country. It’s about ten minutes out of town.
5
I’ve got my own bedroom. It’s much bigger than my room in Australia and I love it. When we
moved here, I painted my room on my own. I put pictures of Australian animals and plants on
the walls. I think it looks great. It’s much nicer than my sister’s room. Hers is all white and very
modern. I think it’s really uncomfortable.

5 a My grandmother 1 lived in Germany until she 2 was 16. Her family moved to Switzerland 3 in
1960. She 4 studied at the university in Geneva and later she became a teacher. She 5 worked in
a big secondary 6 school there for four years and then she got married. After she 7 had her first
baby (my mother), she 8 stopped working. She and my grandfather had five children. They 9
didn’t have a lot of money, but they 10 were very happy together. Granny died in 2010 – she
was only 66. We still miss her a lot.
