Simplependulum
Simplependulum
Requirements: A clamp stand, a metallic bob, a stopwatch, thread of length 1 metre, a metre
scale.
Theory: for small oscillations the time period of a simple pendulum is given by:
Procedure:
1. The clamp stand, the thread and the metallic Bob are connected as given in the diagram.
2. The length of the thread(l') is measured and adjust it using a metre scale.
3. The radius of the bob is measured using a vernier calipers. Only the main scale reading is
considered one year scale readings are neglected. Best active link is hence measured using l = l'
+r
4. The bob is given a very small displacement from its mean position, and time for 20 full
oscillations(t) measured using a stopwatch.
6. A graph is plotted for T^2 vs. l and the slope (S)is found.

Calculation:
g= 4π^2/S =
Discussions:
1. The oscillation should be small that is the angular separation between the bob and the stand
should not be more than 10 degrees.
2. Instead of 20 if 50 of oscillations are taken the error will be divided equally in all readings and
the the reading will be more accurate.
