My grasp of and fluency in English, which for me is my second official language, was long in
coming. I did well at school and decided early that I needed to explore more of the language of Michael
Jackson, Queen Elizabeth and Barack Obama.
I enrolled at the Pilot Linguistic Centre every summer to benefit from the opportunity there and work
on perfecting my second language. The Centre offers language classes especially for communication,
presentation, meeting...etc.
The advance English classes were really advanced! The teachers were committed and competent. Their
methodology include a variety of reading from newspaper, journals and website, as well as recent work of
fiction. The classes did wonders for our level of fluency. Every class include lots of conversation and practice
and open discussion of current event.
As we worked on vocabulary and finer points of English grammar, I became more confident and more
comfortable in my understanding and use of English. We also had homework assignment that focused our
attentions on key points from every class. The individual attention made all the difference. When the IELTS
university examination came around, I found that I was able to face the test with ease.

Competence in my second language played an important part in setting me on the part to a successful
international career. I think the variety of reading we received at the advanced English classes, as well as the
conversation and discussion of the current events, really helped me. At the numerous conference I attend now, I
am able to hold my own and contribute appropriately. So, I would encourage all young people to get to grips
with this important tool. It has paid high dividends in my life and it will do the same for you.
