Elon Musk was born on 28 June 1971 in Pretoria, South Africa. From a young age, Musk
displayed an insatiable curiosity and penchant for technology. He was particularly interested
in computer programming. He was greatly influenced by his father who is an
electromechanical engineer. After completing his high school in South Africa, Musk
immigrated to Canada later joined the University of Pennsylvania for his dual bachelor’s
degree in Physics and Ecolomics.
Zip2 and Early Entrepreneurship: Zip2 started in 1995, an Internet city guide for
newspapers eventually prospered and was acquired by Compaq in 1999. In the same year,
with these shares he started X.com, an online service company which later became PayPal. In
2002, eBay acquired PayPal. His dream got a shape by establishing Space X with the
goodwill given by eBay.
SpaceX: The Mars Pioneer: Musk established with the goal of reducing space
transportation costs and enabling human colonisation of Mars. Though it went bankrupt
under his leadership he accomplished historic milestones in rocketry such as Falcon 1 in
2008, Falcon9 in 2010 and in 2022 Tesla launched the first privately funded manned mission
in orbit and its most ambitious project - the Starship spacecraft for interplanetary travel. His
attempts were praiseworthy for pushing the boundaries of human exploration.
Tesla: Revolutionising the Auto Industry: In 2004, usk joined Tesla Motors a chairman
and later became CEO and prouct architect. Tesla’s aim was to accelerate the world’s
transition to sustainable energy in the automotive sector. Under his leadership he produced
Tesla’s Roadster, the world’s first high performance electric car in 2008, the Model S, the
Model 3 in 2017. With these he cemented his place as an undoubted leader in the automotive
industry.
The Boring Company and Hyperloop: Musk founded the Boring Company 2016 to address
urban congestion by developing underground transportation tunnels which was still in an
experimental phase. Musk’s proposed Hyperloop, a high speed transportation concept, could
revolutionise long distance travel.
