CORRUPTION
Where does corruption begin in
everyday life? It starts at the very
place where a person is born — in the
maternity hospital. Then it continues in
kindergarten, school, university, the
workplace, and even in determining a
burial spot in a cemetery. How can we
fight it? Will we ever be able to
eradicate it?
What is corruption?
Corruption is the abuse of power or authority for
personal gain, often involving dishonest or
unethical behavior. It typically includes practices
like bribery, embezzlement, nepotism, fraud,
favoritism, or other forms of exploitation by
individuals in positions of authority. Corruption
undermines trust, fairness, and integrity in
institutions and can occur at various levels, from
small-scale everyday situations to systemic
practices in government, businesses, and other
organizations.
Causes of Corruption
Lack of transparency and accountability.
Weak legal frameworks and enforcement.
Economic inequality and poverty.
Cultural and societal acceptance of
unethical practices.
Bribery
The simplest form of
corruption is bribery. The
most harmless form of a bribe
is considered to be gifting
presents to an official to
resolve a particular issue.
REMEMBER: In our country, a
gift worth more than 1000 som
is considered a bribe.
"Corruption is paid by the poor."
