2. There are 35 questions in all. All questions are compulsory.
3. This paper has 4 sections, Section A, Section B, Section C and
Section D
4. All the sections are compulsory.
5. There is no overall choice. However, internal choices are
provided in some questions.
6. Section A contains 20 questions, 16 MCQs and 4 statements
where you have choose if the following statements are true or
false. Also give the reasons. Each question carries 1 mark.
7. Section B contains 5 questions of 2 mark each.
8. Section C contains 5 questions of 3 mark each.
9. Section D contains 5 questions of 5 marks each.

21.A particle is moving along a circular track of radius r. What is the


distance traversed by particle in half revolution ? What is its
displacement ?
22. What is the nature of position-time graph for a uniform motion?
23.Define the following terms and write the SI units:

(a) Displacement, and


(b) Instantaneous velocity.
24. Using velocity-time graph, prove that : v2 + u2 = 2as
25. A woman starts from her home at 9.00 A.M. walks with a speed of
5km × h-1 on a straight road upto her office 2.5 km away, stays at the
office upto 5 P.M. and returns home by an auto with a speed of 25km ×
h-1 Choose suitable scales and plot the x-t graph of her motion.
SECTION C [3×5=15]

26. A car moving along a straight highway with speed of 126km × h -1 is


brought to a stop within a distance of 200 m. What is the retardation of
the car (assumed uniform), and how long does it take for the car to
stop?

Ans. Here As u = 126km × h-1 = 126 × 5/18 = 35m × s-1


27. Prove the following relations by calculus method:

(i) s = ut + 1/2 × a × t2

(ii) v 2 - u2 = 2as
28. A constant retarding force of 50 N is applied to a body of mass 20 kg
moving initially with a speed of 15m × s-1 How long does the body take to
stop ?
29. Define momentum. Is it a scalar or vector quantity? Give its units and
dimensions.
30.State Newton's second law of motion. Hence, derive the relation F
=m a , where the symbols have their usual meanings.

SECTION D [5×5=25]

31. What do you understand by friction ? Discuss about static friction,


limiting friction, kinetic friction and rolling friction. Show how the force
of friction varies with the applied friction F.
32. A man weighs 70 kg. He stands on a weighing machine in a lift, which
is moving

(1) upwards with a uniform speed of 10m × s-1

(ii) downwards with a uniform acceleration of 5ms-2 .

(iii) upwards with a uniform acceleration of 5m s-2

What would be the readings on the scale in each case? What would be
the reading, if the lift mechanism failed and it came down freely under
gravity?
Or

What is banking of roads ? Why is it essential ? Derive the equation for


the angle of banking ignoring friction between the tyres and the road.

33. State and prove the polygon law of vector addition.

34. A body is projected upwards with velocity u and at an angle 0 with


the horizontal. Deduce the expressions for (i) maximum height attained,
(ii) time of flight and (iii) horizontal range.

Test the dimensional consistency following equations: (i) v = u + at (iii) v
^ 2 - u ^ 2 = 2as
35. State in the following cases, whether the motion is one, two or three
dimensional:

(1) a kite flying on a windy day,

(2) a speeding car on a long straight high way,

(3) a carrom coin rebounding from the side of the board,

(4) an insect crawling on a globe, and

(5) a planet revolving around its star ?


Or
Consider a simple pendulum, having a bob attached to a string, that
oscillates under the action of the force of gravity. Suppose that the
period of oscillation of the simple pendulum depends on (i) mass m of
the bob (ii) length 1 of the pendulum and (iii) acceleration due to gravity
g at the place. Derive the expression for its time period using method of
dimensions.
