CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH AND METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the method and procedures are used by the

researchers in gathering and interpreting the data needed for the study.

Research Design

This study used quantitative descriptive-survey research. It is a

quantitative method that focuses on describing the charateristics of a

phenomenon rather than asking why it is occurs ( surveyplanet ). In order

to collect quantitative data from a sample of Grade 11 students, this study

will use a descriptive survey research design. Structured questionnaires

will be used in the survey to gather data on academic performance,

behavioral changes, gaming habits, and mental health.

Respondents and Sampling Technique

The respondents of this study comprised of senior high students at

ACLC College of Iriga, S/Y 2024-2025. The students came from Grade 11

with a total of 360. Out of this number, applying Stratified random

sampling formula, the study sample is fixed at 100 distributed among all

grade 11 students. Random sampling is a statistical method used to select

a subset of individuals from a larger population, ensuring that every

individual has an equal chance of being chosen ( scribbr ). This technique

is fundamental in research, as it allows for the generalization of findings

from the sample to the broader population.

Data Gathering Tools

The following data collection instrument is used to produce the

information required to meet the study’s goals:

Questionnaire. In gathering the data, the main instrument used

was customize questionnaires. To determine the perceived impact of

mobile games on respondents’ behavior and mental health, a specially

designed survey questionnaire was developed.

Preparation of Questionnaire. In preparing the questionnaire,

the problem statement served as the foundation for the researchers’

synthesis of the questionnaires. The content was developed by the

researchers using a brainstorming technique to find questions in each

indicator. We made multiple revisions until it was completed.

Validation of Questionnaire. The question sets are adjusted in

accordance with respond to the questions posed by this research. By

linking various types of quantitative questions, the survey-questionnaire

set has been shown to be valid and dependable for this current research.

This makes the research and topic more timely and relevant. Issue. The

researchers’ practical experts confirmed and validated the questionnaire.

Teacher of research. With the teacher’s recommendations and

adjustments, the The approval of the questionnaires was successful.

Administration of Questionnaire. By the face-to-face survey

done, different experiences onto this research were determined. With a

stratified sampling technique, the researchers identified the target

respondents each section within grade 11 of ACLC College of Iriga, Inc.

Research questionnaires were distributed to the respondents, gathered

responses were based on how they understand the topic given. The data

gathering started on November 27. The problems encountered by the

researchers were there are students who didn’t want to participate in the

study. The instruments was successfully presented, tallied, interpreted

and presented ensuring the completion of the process of this study.

Statistical Tools Used

The researchers will organise, tally, and analyse the data they have

collected.

Frequency Distribution. A representation of a frequency

distribution can be found in a graphical or tabular representation that

shows how many observations there are in a specific pause

( coursehero.com ) It will serve as a tool in this study to gauge the

demographic profile of the responders (name, time spent, reasons, effects,

and mobile games played).

Likert Scale. A rating scale called a Likert scale is used to gauge

beliefs, attitudes, or actions. An eight or ten-word sequence follows a

statement or question. Respond to statements. Respondents select the

choice that most closely matches their think about the question or

statement. The 4-point Likert scale will be used in this study, and it is

strongly agree, disagree, strongly disagree, and agree to gauge their

shared understanding of the enquiries.

Mean. Is the sum of a collection of numbers divided by the count of

numbers in the collection. The collection is often a set of results from an

experiment, an observational study, or a survey.

µ=( Σx )/N

Where:

Σx = sum of all the data

N = represents the number of data

Μ = mean

3 1.81 – 2.60 Agree

2 2.61 – 3. 40 Disagree

Percentage. Percentage figures are derived by dividing one quantity by

another with the latter rebased to 100. Percentages are symbolised by % (
