I am Suman Dey, Degree in Mechanical Engineering, having experience in the erection, testing and maintenance of
Hydro Power House . Presently I am working in PES ENGINEERS PVT Ltd as a Junior Engineer of Mechanical
Components of electromechanical works at Punatsangchhu ll , Bhutan.Presently, I am
heading a team of 46 to 60 numbers of manpower consisting of
Technicians and Workers. I have worked on large hydropower project Panyor Lower Hydro Power Station
(405MW) Arunachal Pradesh, punatsangchhu ll (1020MW) Bhutan.

Areas of Exposure

1. Turbine: - Having experience in erection and

maintenance of hydro turbines. Working with Francis type Turbine.
2. MIV: - Having experience in erection, testing and maintenance of inlet main valves. Working with Spherical

Valve.
3. Pump: - Having experience in erection, testing and

maintenance of Vertical and Horizontal centrifugal pumps, gear pumps, ge-rotor pumps, screw pumps.
4. Auxiliaries: - Having experience in installations and

maintenance of MBOP system (Cooling water, Compressed air (pneumatic), High-

pressure oil (Hydraulic), Drainage, Dewatering,
Oil filtration).
5. Documentation:- Developing daily, weekly progressive reports and recording them

1.Turbine Maintenance:-

Inspections of machines and mechanical systems, Attending Preventive maintenance,

Corrective maintenance and Periodic maintenance of Turbines, planning, managing and organizing turbine
spares, tools, consumables, inspecting underwater path after dewatering, immediately take part in repairing
or replacing turbine parts during breakdown and get the machine under operation as soon as possible,
refurbish old Turbine components and make it ready for installation.

2. Pump Operation and maintenance: -

monitoring pump parameter and attending Preventive

maintenance, Corrective maintenance and Periodic maintenance of pump .

3.Mechanical Balancing of Plant (MBOP) :-

Cooling Water System: - operation and maintenance of cooling water system and its components
(Pumps, Simplex/Duplex filter, Valves, Heat Exchangers, measuring instruments, pipelines and other
fittings etc.)
Compressed Air System (High Pressure and Low pressure): - operation and maintenance of Compressed

air system and its components(Compressors,Receiver tank, FRL, Valve, Brake Jacks, Air Pipeline,
measuring instruments and fittings etc.)
Hydraulic System: - operation and maintenance of OPU/HPU and its components (oil pipeline, fittings,

valves, measuring instruments, Nitrogen Plant, Accumulator Station and Hydraulic manifold
etc.),Overhauling and troubleshooting of vertical gear pump , ge-rotorpump, screw pump .
Drainage & Dewatering System: - operation and maintenance of D&D system and its components

(Submersible pumps, valve, measuring instruments, pipelines and other fittings for Plant drainage and
Turbine pit/Draft Tube dewatering).
Oil Filtration:- operation and maintenance of the oil filtration system and its components (pipeline, oil

filtration machine, collector paper, fitting) for Turbine, Generator .

4.Quality Checking:-

Dimension checking of Guide Vane (clearance between two guide vanes and top and bottom gaps of
guide vanes, angle of guide vanes), Bearing settings, throw and direction checking and top and bottom
labyrinth checking as per quality procedure by using Micrometer (inside & outside), Vernier caliper, Slip
gauge, Dial gauge, Filler gauge, Measuring tape etc.

Carrying out Visual inspection before welding and after welding.

Conducting leak tests of MBOP components after APM.
Conducting and witnessing Dye penetrant testing.

5.Other Structural and Fabrication Works as per site requirements:-

Fabrication and erection of gravity drain SS pipe line .

Fabrication and erection of breaker structure.
6.Work Safety:-

Inspecting ladder, scaffolding, platform before work starts up.

Maintaining general safety.
Inspecting lifeline and safety belt condition during work at height.
Inspecting power tools (regular tools) and welding machine before work start up.

7.Planning and co-ordination work in Power House:-

Planning and optimization of workman during APM and Day to Day maintenance.
Organizing morning coordination meetings with workers.

8.Documentation work in Power House:-

Preparing Daily, Weekly and Monthly Progress reports.

Preparing reports during APM.
Preparing of spare list and consumable list.
Document Management (Proper maintaining of Mechanical Drawings and Protocols).
Preparing man-hour consumption report of my own activities.

1. Hydro Turbine Work:-

Francis Machine (Large new installation): - Material handling, Assembly and erection Turbine
Embedment’s , Bottom Ring, Runner, Turbine Shaft, Guide Vanes, Head Cover, Servomotor, Shaft Seal,
Bearing, Balancing Pipe, DT Cone and Aeration system.
Turbine Commissioning and Operation: - Dry Stroking, Precondition checking before start filling and start

up, filling of water conductor system, monitoring of Turbine mechanical components, instruments
monitoring, 1st spinning of machine, no load test etc.

2. Main Inlet Valve: -

Spherical Valve (New installation, Assembly & Modernization):- Assembly, Erection, hydro testing,
commissioning of spherical Valve and its Components (Lever, Counterweight, Door, Trunnion, Body(U/S &
D/S) , Working seal, Maintenance seal, Anchorage, Servomotors, Expansion/Dismantling joint, position
indicator and control valve assembly, instrumentation, Inlet & Outlet pipe etc).
Butterfly Valve (New installation): -Erection, commissioning of Butterfly Valve and its Components (Lever,

Counterweight, Disc, Working seal, Body, Servomotor, Expansion/Dismantling joint, instrumentation,

upstream & downstream pipe etc).

3. Mechanical Balancing of Plant (MBOP): -

Cooling Water System: - Material handling, installation of cooling water system and its components
(Pumps, Cyclone separator, Simplex/Duplex filter, Valves, Heat Exchangers, measuring instruments,
pipelines and other fittings etc.)
Compressed Air System (Low pressure): - Material handling, installation of Compressed air system and

its components (Compressors, Dryers, Receiver tank, FRL, Valve, Air Pipeline, measuring instruments and
fittings etc.)
Hydraulic System: - Material handling, installation, testing, commissioning (sound knowledge)of MIV &

Governor OPU and its components (oil pipeline, fittings, valves, measuring instruments, Nitrogen bank,

Dimension checking as per site protocol/quality procedure by using Micrometer (inside & outside),
Vernier caliper, Height gauge, Depth gauge, Combination set, Master level, Block level, Dumpy level, Slip
gauge, Dial gauge, Filler gauge, Measuring tape etc.
Conducting hydro tests of Turbine and MBOP components at site.
Conducting leak tests of MBOP components.
Carrying out Visual inspection before welding (Weld angle, root gap, root face, mismatch) as per
drawing.


