Site Analysis
Location
The site is situated in Lower Omon, a coastal area in Ragay, Camarines Sur. It is in proximity to
the scenic Ragay Gulf, known for its natural beauty and marine biodiversity.
Surroundings
The area is bordered by the stunning Ragay Gulf providing opportunities for water-based
activities like swimming, snorkeling and kayaking. The local communities, engaged in fishing
and farming, celebrate their heritage through cultural festivals showcasing traditional music and
cuisine. Easily accessible by road, and the region is characterized by lush tropical vegetation,
making it an appealing destination for visitors.
Site Boundaries and Topography
Site Boundaries
Southern Boundary: Adjacent to upland areas and possibly other barangays within the
municipality.
Western Boundary: Bordered by coastal areas along the Ragay Gulf, providing access to marine
resources.
Eastern Boundary: May connect to other barangays or natural features that define the landscape.
Northern Boundary: Likely borders agricultural lands or other barangays in the municipality,
contributing to the overall agricultural landscape of Ragay.
Topography
The terrain is generally flat to gently sloping, with some elevated areas offering views of the
Gulf. The elevation changes are minimal, which may facilitate construction and drainage but
requires careful planning to manage water runoff.
Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 1,803. This represented 3.02% of the total
population of Ragay.
Environmental Factors
Climate
Ragay experiences a temperate climate with two distinct seasons: wet and dry. The wet season
spans from June to December, characterized by heavy rainfall, especially from September to
December, with precipitation ranging from 30mm to 400mm. The dry season occurs from
February to May, featuring high temperatures between 22°C and 30°C, particularly intense in
March, April, and early May. The coldest period is typically from November to January.
Wind patterns in Ragay vary with external weather influences. During the wet season, winds
predominantly come from the northeast (Habagat), shifting to the southeast (Amihan) from
December to May.
Soil Type
Sand Soil
Located near coastal areas, this type drains quickly and is less fertile.
Clay Soils
Due to the area's proximity to water bodies, clayey soils are common and tend to retain moisture
well.
Loam Soils
These are also possible in agricultural areas, characterized by a mix of sand, silt, and clay,
making them fertile and good for crops.
Organic Soils
In areas with abundant vegetation, organic soils rich in decomposed materials may be prevalent.
Fertility
The soil may support a variety of tropical plants, beneficial for landscaping and creating green
spaces.
Water Source
According to the municipal profile of Ragay, particularly regarding water services, the barangay
of Lower Omon is served by the Ragay Water District and has access to a Level II Water
System, which is operated at the barangay level. This indicates that residents have some access
to potable water, though the overall quality and availability of water can still vary.
Additionally, the municipality has been working on improving water facilities, and there is a
focus on ensuring that water quality is good through simple filtration and chlorination processes.
However, challenges remain, especially in providing consistent access to safe drinking water
across all households.
Natural Resources
Freshwater ecosystems are found in inland bodies of water, including flowing rivers and streams,
standing lakes and reservoirs, and man-made (artificial fishponds) environments. They are
characterized by low-salinity water sourced from rainwater catchment areas, often formed by
forests.
These ecosystems provide numerous benefits, such as a cost-effective water supply for domestic
and industrial use, natural waste disposal, and support for the water cycle. Additionally,
freshwater bodies can serve as important transport routes.
Vegetation and Wildlife
The site is likely to host a variety of tropical vegetation, including coconut palms and
mangroves along the coastline. Local wildlife may include birds, small mammals, and marine
species, all of which enhance the ecological value of the area.
