DIRECTION: In the question number 19 and 20, a statement of Assertion (A) is followed by a statement of
Reason (R). Choose the correct option
a) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and reason (R) is the correct explanation of assertion (A)
b) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and reason (R) is not the correct explanation of assertion (A)
c) Assertion (A) is true but reason (R) is false.
d) Assertion (A) is false but reason (R) is true.
19. Assertion: If the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial 𝑎𝑥 2 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐, where 𝑐 ≠ 0 are equal, then c and a
have the same sign.
Reason: A polynomial with 𝛼 and 𝛽 as its zeros is 𝑘 [𝑥 2 + (𝛼 + 𝛽)𝑥 + 𝛼𝛽].
20. Assertion: Seven face cards are removed from a deck of cards and the cards are well shuffled. Then
5
the probability of drawing a face card is 52
Reason: King, Queen and Jack are known as face cards. So, there are 12 face cards in total.
Section B
( Section B consists of 5 questions of 2 marks each )
21. If 𝛼 and 𝛽 are the zeros of a quadratic polynomial such that 𝛼 + 𝛽 = 24 and 𝛼 − 𝛽 = 8, find a
quadratic polynomial having 𝛼 and 𝛽as its zeroes.
22. If sec θ + tan θ = m and sec θ – tan θ = n, find the value of √𝑚𝑛.
23 (A) 144 cartons of Coke Cans and 90 cartons of Pepsi Cans are to be stacked in a canteen. If each stack
is of the same height and is to contain cartons of the same drink, what would be the greatest number of
cartons each stack would have ?
(OR)
(B) If HCF of 144 and 180 is expressed in the form 13m – 3, find the value of “m”
24. A street light bulb is fixed on a pole 6 m above the level of the street. If a woman of height 1.5 m casts
a shadow of 3 m, find how far she is away from the base of the pole?
25 (A) If PA and PB are tangents from an outside point P such that PA = 10 cm and ∠APB = 60˚. Find the
length of the chord AB.

these lines and y-axis.
(OR)
(B) Check if the pair of equations, 𝑦 − 2𝑥 = 1 and 5𝑦 – 𝑥 = 14, is consistent. If yes, find a solution
of it graphically.
27. A juice seller serves his customers using a glass as shown in figure. The inner
diameter of the cylindrical glass is 5 cm, but the bottom of the glass has a
hemispherical portion raised which reduces the capacity of the glass. If the height
of the glass is 10 cm, find the apparent capacity of the glass and its actual capacity. [𝜋
= 3.14]
35. A man on the top of a vertical tower observes a car moving at a uniform speed coming directly towards
it. If it takes 12 minutes for the angle of depression to change from 30˚ to 45˚, how soon after this, will
