Assignment Title: Exploring Human Anatomy

Objective: To enhance your understanding of the human body’s structure and functions,
including key systems and organs.

Part 1: Labeling and Identification

Instructions: Label the following anatomical structures. You can use diagrams or draw the
structures in your answer sheet.

1. The Circulatory System: Label the heart, aorta, superior vena cava, pulmonary arteries,
and veins on a diagram of the circulatory system.
2. The Skeletal System: Label key bones, such as the femur, tibia, humerus, scapula, and
vertebral column, on a human skeleton diagram.
3. The Nervous System: Label the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and major
components of the autonomic nervous system (sympathetic and parasympathetic).

Part 2: Short Answer Questions

Answer the following questions in 3–5 sentences each:

1. The Role of the Heart: Describe the function of the heart in the circulatory system and
explain the difference between arteries and veins.
2. Muscle Contraction: How do muscles contract at the cellular level? Explain the role of
actin and myosin filaments.
3. The Digestive System: What are the key functions of the digestive system, and how do
the small intestine and large intestine differ in function?
4. The Brain and Nervous System: What is the function of the central nervous system, and
how does it interact with the peripheral nervous system?
5. Homeostasis: Explain the concept of homeostasis and provide an example of how the
body maintains this balance.

Part 3: Creative Assignment (Choose One)

1. Create a Body System Poster:

Design a detailed poster for one body system (e.g., skeletal, muscular, circulatory,
digestive). Include key organs, their functions, and how the system works together. Use
visuals, diagrams, or illustrations to enhance your poster.
2. Write a Day in the Life of a Cell:
Write a fictional narrative from the perspective of a cell in the human body (e.g., a red
blood cell, muscle cell, or neuron). Include its journey through the body and describe its
function in detail.
3. Create a Flowchart of the Digestive Process:
Design a flowchart showing the process of digestion from ingestion to absorption.
Include all major organs involved and explain their roles in digestion.

Part 4: Research Assignment (Essay)

Write a 300–500 word essay on the following topic:

"The Importance of the Endocrine System in Maintaining Homeostasis"

Discuss the role of hormones and glands in the endocrine system, and explain how they help
regulate processes like metabolism, growth, and stress response to maintain balance in the body.
