3. CONFIGURING THE SYSTEM
If you have installed DREW WATCH ELECTRONIC SERVICES™ software version
1.3 as an upgrade from a previous version, you will not have to reconfigure the
system.

If this is your first installation of DREW WATCH ELECTRONIC SERVICES

software, proceed with configuring the system as described below.

3.1 VESSEL DATA

Start the program by double clicking on the DREW WATCH ELECTRONIC

SERVICES software icon on the desktop. When the program is started for the first
time, a pop up window will appear prompting you to configure the system. Click OK
to begin configuring the system.

The software will automatically open the Vessel Data screen that can also

identified by the icon.

The Vessel Data screen has three tabs at the top. One is labeled “Registration
Data”, the second is “Password” and the third is “Equipment Data”. The current
view should be the Registration Data tab. Click the Registration Data tab to view if
not already in view.

3.1.1 Entering Registration Data

In the Registration Data tab:

1. Vessel name will already be entered.

2. If this is an additional installation of DREW WATCH ELECTRONIC SERVICES
software on your vessel and you want to identify the monthly data files from
each installation, you can enter up to two characters in the “Data file name”
field. For example, if the Chief enters CE in the “Data file name” field for a
vessel named Drew in the month of February 2005, the name of the monthly
file for this installation will be DrewCE22005.mon. The vessel name is Drew,
CE is for Chief Engineer installation, 2 is for February, 2005 is the year, and
mon is the extension of the file.
3. Enter the flag of registry for your vessel in the “Flag” field.
4. The “Company name” will already be entered.
5. The “Order number”, “Vessel number” and “Serial number” will already be
entered.

4
3.1.2. Entering Password

Click on the Password tab.

1. In the Password frame, enter a new password in the “Enter new password”
field.
2. Re-enter the new password in the “Re-enter new password” field. This
password will be used when accessing the Vessel Data screen in the future.
3. In the Data entered by frame, enter the name of the person who is entering
this data in the “Name” field.
4. In the pull down menu, choose the title for the person entering the data.

3.1.3. Entering Equipment Data

Click on the Equipment Data tab.

1. Enter the system name in the “System name” field. (Examples: Port Boiler,
Starboard Boiler, Feed/Cond/MU, HT Cooling, LT Cooling). Whatever you enter
into this field will be shown as the title of a tab in the Data screen. For example,
if you enter ‘Port Boiler’ into the field, a Port Boiler tab will be shown in the Data
screen. A boiler water and feed water system will need to be configured.
Note: The “System name” must be different for the boiler water sample and
the feed water sample. The “Water Sample” will be selected in step 4 below.
For example, if ‘Port Boiler’ is the “System name” for the boiler water
sample as selected in step 4, ‘Port Feed’ would be a choice as the “System
name” for the feed water sample as selected in step 4.
2. Enter the type of system in the “System type” field, if applicable. An example
would be to use the name of the boiler manufacturer.
3. Select the “Treatment” from the pull down menu. This is where you will select
the boiler, feedwater or cooling water treatment program. Make sure that you
select the same Treatment from the pull down menu for the boiler and feed
water systems.
4. Select the type of “Water Sample” from the pull down menu.
Note: Make sure that a “Treatment” from Step 3 is already selected. The pull
down menu for the “Water Sample” will remain empty if no “Treatment” has
been selected.
Note: If you are configuring a boiler water treatment system, select ‘Boiler’
as the type of “Water Sample” from the pull down menu. If you are
configuring a feedwater system, select ‘Feed’ as the type of “Water Sample”
from the pull down menu. You will need both for configuring a complete
boiler water treatment program.
5. The type of unit used to measure the dosage of chemical treatment is shown in
the Dosage unit frame.
6. In the Additional system information frame, enter information as required.
Use the Previous parameter button and the Next parameter button to navigate
within this frame. Leave the parameter blank if information is not available.

5
7. Click on the New system button to move to the next system, e.g. Auxiliary
Boiler. You will be prompted to confirm that you want to enter a new system. If
you want to enter a new system, click on the Yes button and enter the data as
described in steps 1 – 6. Continue to add new systems as necessary. Each
system will be identified with a tab in the Data screen. The title of the tab will be
whatever is entered in the “System name” field. If you do not want to enter a
new system, click on the No button.
8. Click on the Save button to save all of the entries.
9. Click on the Delete system button to delete a system.
10. Go to the Data screen by clicking on the Exit button.

3.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT CONFIGURING THE SYSTEM

1. Once the system has been configured for the first time, the software will
automatically open to the Data screen when you double click on the DREW
WATCH ELECTRONIC SERVICES™ software icon on the desktop.

2. Once the system has been configured for the first time, modifications to existing

information or additional systems can be added by clicking on the icon.

3. If a new system needs to be added in the Equipment Data tab, click on the Next
system button until it changes to the New system button. Enter the data for the
new system as described in steps 1-6 in section 3.1.3.

4. Each time a change is made in the Equipment Data tab, such as adding a new
system or modifying an existing system, a new configuration file is made. The
new configuration file will take effect on the first day of the new month that does
not already contain a configuration file. For example, if you are working in the
month of May and you make changes in the Equipment Data tab, the changes
will take effect on June 1, provided that a configuration file does not already
exist for the month of June. A configuration file for the month of June would
already exist if you had moved forward to the month of June in the Data screen.
Each time you move forward to a new month in the Data screen, the existing
configuration file will automatically be inherited for the new month. Therefore, in
this example, if a configuration file already exists for the month of June due to
moving forward to June in the Data screen before making changes in the
Equipment Data tab, the changes will take effect on July 1.

5. If you change to a new treatment program during the month you will need to
reconfigure the system for the new treatment program in the Equipment Data
tab. For example if you switch to a new treatment program in the month of
August, you will need to reconfigure the system in the Equipment Data tab. The
most direct and simple way to reconfigure the system when switching to a new
treatment program is to reinstall the program onto your computer using a
different name.

6
