SECTION – E
Question No. 37 to 39 are case-based/data -based questions with 2 to 3 short sub-parts.
37 The metals in the middle of the activity series such as iron, zinc, lead, copper, etc., are 4M
moderately reactive. These are usually present as sulphide or carbonates in nature. It is
easier to obtain a metal from its oxide, as compared to its sulphides and carbonates.
Therefore, prior to reduction, the metal sulphides and carbonates must be converted
into metal oxides. The sulphide ores are converted into oxides by heating strongly in the
presence of excess air. This process is known as roasting. The carbonate ores are
changed into oxides by heating strongly in limited air. This process is known as
calcination.
On the basis of the above case and the related studied concepts, answer the
following question:
i)What is Calcination? Give chemical reaction for the process.
ii) Give a suitable example for the process Roasting.
iii) What is the process of converting metal oxide to metal?
iv)Name some other reducing agent which can be used to extract metal from
metal oxide?

In animals, such control and coordination are provided by nervous and muscular
tissues. Touching a hot object is an urgent and dangerous situation for us. We need to
detect it, and respond to it. How do we detect that we are touching a hot object? All
information from our environment is detected by the specialized tips of some nerve
cells. These receptors are usually located in our sense organs, such as the inner ear,
the nose, the tongue, and so on.
i)What are the parts of neuron?
ii) Which part of neuron receive the information first?
iii) Name two receptors and the organ where they are present?
39 Resistance is the opposition offered by the conductor to the flow of electric current. 4M
When two or more resistors are connected in series then electric current through
each resistor is same but the electric potential across each resistor will be different. If
R1, R2 and R3 are the resistance connected in series then current through each
resistor will be I but potential difference across each resistor is V1, V2 and V3
respectively.
Thus, the total potential difference is equal to the sum of potential difference across
each resistor. Hence, V= V1 + V2 + V3
Again, IR = IR1 + IR2 + IR3
Thus, R = R1 + R2 + R3
Hence in case of series combination of resistors, the total resistance is the sum of
resistance of each resistor in a circuit.
Now, in case of parallel combination of resistors electric current through each resistor
is different but the potential difference across each resistor is same. If resistors R1, R2
and R3 are connected in parallel combination then potential difference across each
resistor will be V but current through each resistor is I1, I2 and I3 respectively.
Thus, total current through the circuit is the sum of current flowing through each
resistor. I = I1 + I2 + I3
