1. The density of lead is 30.2 𝑔/𝑐𝑚3 . What is this value in kilograms per meter cubes?

1. A driver drives 4 km north and then 3 km east on a horizontal field. How far and in what

ballon leaves the thrower’s hand with a speed of 16.0 m/s. air resistance may be ignored,
so the water balloon is in a free fall after it leaves the thrower’s hand. (a) what is its speed
after falling for 12.0 s (b) how far does it fall in 12.0 s ? (c) what is the magnitude of its
velocity after falling 100.0 m?
6. With what speed in miles/hr (1 m/s = 2.23 mi/hr) must an object be thrown to reach a
height of 91.5 m (equivalent to one football field)? Assume negligible air resistance.
7. It was once recorded that a Jaguar left skid marks that were 290 m in length. Assuming
that the Jaguar skidded to a stop with a constant acceleration of -3.90 m/s2, determine the
speed of the Jaguar before it began to skid.
8. A bullet is moving at a speed of 367 m/s when it embeds into a lump of moist clay. The
bullet penetrates for a distance of 0.0621 m. Determine the acceleration of the bullet
while moving into the clay. (Assume a uniform acceleration.)

9. A turtle crawls along a straight line, which we will call the x-axis with the positive
direction to the right. The equation for the turtle’s position as a function of time is x(t) =
5.0 cm + (4.00 cm/s)t – (0.625 cm/𝑠 2 )𝑡 2 . (a) Find the turtle’s initial velocity, initial
position, and initial acceleration. (b) At what time t is the velocity of the turtle zero? (c)
How long after starting does it take the turtle to return to its starting point? (d) At what
times t is the turtle a distance of 30.00 cm from its starting point? What is the velocity at
each of these times?
