Compatible Software Versions:

SANWatch: 2.6.H.02 or later
EonPath: 1.23.2.50_DS_4 or later
CLI: 2.0.D.02 or later

New Features:
1. When using SANWatch Wizard to create LDs, RAID 6 configuration is set as
the default to eliminate the effects of hard drive media error.
2. Support VMWare VAAI (including VAAI thin provision).
3. Added LD stripe size information when exporting Config.txt file in SANWatch.

Changes:
1. Improved eRW response time for SAS and iSCSI systems.
Notes:
1. If a partition is mapped to both Ch0 lun0, Ch1 lun0 and connected to a
Solaris host, SANWatch may fail to send commands by in-band connection
when MPxIO is enabled.
2. Changing the source side controller’s unique ID does not generate an alert
message through the RS-232C interface. Changing the unique ID
nevertheless causes the pair to fail when resyncing. Users must unassign
the target and then reassign it with the new source side controller’s unique
ID.
3. Controller B will boot up 30~60 seconds after controller A has started.
JBODs will beep when the RAID controller boots up.
4. Reclaim can only be executed on one partition at a time.
5. If a HDD drive name is too long, it will not be completely displayed in the
RS-232 console terminal.
6. From firmware version FW3.89A08 and onwards, rolling FW upgrade and
FW synchronization will be supported.
Fixed Bugs:
1. Fixed clone drive process stop running when “Logical Drive Alert: Bad Data
Block Marked” message appears (ID: 1300120).
2. Fixed when remote replication I/Os have been running for a few hours,
remote replication pair may time-out or pause (ID: 1300127).
3. Fixed failure to create replication pair when remote replication pairs have
been deleted and re-created several times (ID: 1300033).
4. Fixed controller encountering unrecoverable error when changing host port IP
address remotely (ID: 1300145).
5. Fixed controller unrecoverable error code (ID: 1300130).
6. Fixed RAID redundant controller failures when receiving abnormal http data
from client (ID: 1300132).
7. Fixed management port access difficulties via telnet, SANWatch or Embedded
RAIDWatch (ID: 1300146).
8. Fixed the faulty “Copy and Replace” error in firmware that results in the error
message “No Available Drives” (ID: 1300150).
9. Fixed management port access difficulties via telnet, SANWatch or Embedded
RAIDWatch when using 3rd party Linux tools (ID: 1300189).

Known Issues:

Compatible Software Versions:

SANWatch: 2.5.a.12 or later
EonPath: 1.23.2.45_DS_11 or later
CLI: 2.0.c.05 or later

New Features:
3. Added the remote replication diagnostic function (command) in the Command
Line Interface.
4. Added the remote replication diagnostic function in SANWatch
5. Fix some bugs to enhance remote replication function

Changes:
1. Continuous initialization of logical drive with over 32TB to 40TB without the
need for resetting controllers is now supported.
2. The maximum size of a single partition in a logical volume for EonStor DS
series is now expanded to 512TB (previously 256TB).
3. Rolling firmware upgrade is not supported on firmware version 3.89A08 due to
changes in the firmware kernel to fix some issues.

Notes:
13. If a partition is mapped to both Ch0 lun0 and Ch1 lun0 and connected to a
Solaris host, SANWatch may fail to send commands by in-band connection
when MPxIO is enabled.
14. Changing the source side controller’s unique ID does not generate an alert
message through the RS-232C interface. Changing the unique ID
nevertheless causes the pair to fail when resyncing. Users must unassign
the target and then reassign it with the new source side controller’s unique
ID.
15. Controller B will boot up 30~60 seconds after controller A has started.
JBODs will beep when the RAID controller boots up.
16. Reclaim can only be executed on one partition at a time.
17. If a HDD drive name is too long, it will not be completely displayed in the
RS-232 console terminal.

Fixed Bugs:
1. Changing the IP address settings takes longer than expected and will
eventually fail. (ID: 1200080)
2. (Applicable to controllers with FW 3.86C11 in Windows Server 2008 R2)
Clicking on the Microsoft MPIO tab hangs the OS or causes the “blue screen”
situation. (ID: 1200152)
3. (Applicable to EonStor DS S24S-G2240) Rebuild speed is much slower. (ID:
1200160)
4. The partition size created in the CLI is smaller than when created through
Telnet/RS-232/SANWatch. (ID: 1200167)
5. (Applicable to EonStor DS iSCSI-host RAID systems) Latency becomes high
and the system will be disconnected from VMWare 5. (ID: 1200157)
6. Fails to receive a notification mail when using MAC OS X 10.7 as the SMTP
server. (ID: 1200209)
7. Async remote replication speed becomes slower after being synced for 16
times. (ID: 1200223, 1200253)
8. (Applicable to EonStor DS S12E-G/R2140-4 iSCSI RAID subsystems with
firmware version 3.88) Fails to boot up with the default 1GB RAM. (ID:
1200228)
9. (Applicable to Linux host server environment) If the original partition size is
changed to create a new partition which will be mapped to the same LUN, the
server will issue a non-existing LBA to the RAID system. The controller will
reset as a result. (ID: 1200215)
10. 1. Eight remote replication pairs are mapped all to a physical server. 2. Async
remote replication is executed. 3. Some or all of the pairs will show the
message “chkdsk” and formats the physical OS. (ID: 1200222)
11. (Applicable to EonStor DS Fibre RAID models connected to QLogic SANBOX
5800 switch in Linux host environment) 1. Reduce the speed to 2G or 4G. 2.
Run IO from the Linux host to any of the EonStor DS RAID system. 3. Open
the switch's web settings page and go to the "Port stats" corner. 4. The
LinkFailure count increases. (ID: 1200249, 1200270)
12. (Applicable to SANWatch version 2.3.B.07 or 2.1G.08) When setting up a
group, if SANWatch is shut down or the server is rebooted, the group will

Notes:
1. If a partition is mapped to both Ch0 lun0 and Ch1 lun0 and connected to a
Solaris host, SANWatch may fail to send commands by in-band connection
when MPxIO is enabled. (Solaris limitation)
2. Changing the source side controller’s unique ID does not generate an alert
message through the RS-232C interface. Changing the unique ID nevertheless
causes the pair to fail when resyncing. Users must unassign the target and then
reassign it with the new source side controller’s unique ID. (SANWatch
limitation)
3. Controller B will boot up 30~60 seconds after controller A has started. JBODs
will beep when the RAID controller boots up. (Firmware limitation)
4. Reclaim can only be executed on one partition at a time.
5. If a HDD drive name is too long, it will not be completely displayed in the
RS-232 console terminal.

Compatible Software Versions:

SANWatch: 2.3.d.03 or later
EonPath: 1.23.2.45_DS_11 or later
CLI: 2.0.c.01 or later

Changes:
1. The maximum number of logical drive is now 32 (used to be 16).
2. A workaround has been built in to avoid some drives entering into the “Not
Ready” state (example: HGST SAS6G Ultrastar 7K3000 3TB
(HUS723030ALS640), 2TB (HUS723020ALS640))

Notes:
1. If a partition is mapped to both Ch0 lun0 and Ch1 lun0 and connected to a
Solaris host, SANWatch may fail to send commands by in-band connection
when MPxIO is enabled.
2. Changing the source side controller’s unique ID does not generate an alert
message through the RS-232C interface. Changing the unique ID nevertheless
causes the pair to fail when resyncing. Users must unassign the target and then
reassign it with the new source side controller’s unique ID.
3. Controller B will boot up 30~60 seconds after controller A has started. JBODs
will beep when the RAID controller boots up.
4. Reclaim can only be executed on one partition at a time.
5. If a HDD drive name is too long, it will not be completely displayed in the
RS-232 console terminal.
6. iSCSI models with 1GB of memory cannot boot up with the firmware version
3.88A50.

Fixed Bugs:
If the firmware is being upgraded from version 3.86G06 to version 3.88, the
maximum number of logical drive will be reduced from 32 to 16. If more than 16
logical drives exist before the upgrade, the controller will hang when the upgrade
process is completed. (ID: 1200201)

1. If a logical volume contains multiple logical drives and one logical drive’s
status changes into “fatal fail,” the other healthy logical drives can still be
deleted safely.
2. Configuring and applying jumbo frames in the host side parameters will not
freeze SANWatch or RAIDWatch any more.

Notes:
1. If a partition is mapped to both Ch0 lun0 and Ch1 lun0 and connected to a

Upgrading Procedures:
1. Check the table above to get the right firmware file. Shutdown the controller
and use SANWatch or RS-232 to upgrade.
2. If your firmware version is prior to 3.85E10, use Infortrend’s dedicated
firmware upgrade utility to upgrade to 3.86C09 first. (Check the firmware
3.86C09 release note)

Compatible Software Versions:

SANWatch: 2.1.G.08 or later
EonPath: 1.23.2.45_DS_9 or later
CLI: 1.0.b.07 or later

Changes:
Disabled the halt condition at resetting the hardware even if cached data in the
controller is corrupted due to the absence of BBU.

Notes:
If a LD member disk fails, it should be replaced immediately. Otherwise the
following situation might happen:
z Another disk fails (In case of RAID 6, two more disks fail).
z Because the LD cannot rebuild itself any more, its status changes to “Fatal
Fail.
z In IO access occurs in this situation, the RAID system might not work
properly.

Upgrading Procedures:
1. Upgrade from firmware version prior to 3.85E10, version 3.86A07 and
3.86B02

Please use Infortrend’s dedicated firmware upgrade utility. The firmware binary
file includes both the firmware file and the firmware upgrade utility. Check the
table in the previous page to get the right firmware version.

The following is an example for activating the utility in DOS-prompt.

> [utility-file-name].exe -ip [controller IP address]

The firmware download utility will force the controllers to shutdown first before
upgrading firmware.

2. Upgrade from firmware version 3.85E10

Please use the file with extension “PAKNDS” for upgrading from 3.85E10.

Check the table in the previous page to get the right firmware. Use SANWatch
or RS232 to upgrade firmware.

Please shut down the controller before you upgrade the firmware from version
3.85E10.

Compatible Software Versions:

SANWatch: 2.1.G.08 or later
EonPath: 1.23.2.45_DS_9 or later
CLI: 1.0.b.07 or later

Changes:
1. Support data service: thin provision & remote replication
2. Support 3TB disk drive
3. Cache handling is well enhanced in this firmware version for which the main
purpose is to overcome irregular human operation, unexpectedly
environmental error and inclusion of recovery mechanism.
y When encountering any unrecoverable errors, the controller will halt instead
of resetting itself.
y Controller will halt itself when its cache data is produced inconsistently during
an error. The controller will post notifications for LD and cache status on the
RS-232 interface for troubleshooting. Do not power off the controllers when
cached data inconsistency is found.
y Firmware synchronization support has been removed.
y Rolling firmware upgrade support has been removed.
y Firmware can not be downgraded to a prior version.
y Before downloading the firmware, shut down the controller.
y LD and LV should be assigned on the same controller and there should be
no reassignment after creation unless controller is in shutdown status.

Notes:
1. Remote replication is applicable to FC and iSCSI channels only.
2. Controller B will boot up 30~60 seconds after controller A has started. JBODs
will beep when the RAID controller boots up.
3. Due to the limitation of Solaris mpxio, if the user maps one partition to "Ch0
lun0 & Ch1 lun0", in-band agent fails to send commands.
4. Host reclaiming (only for thin provisioning) on multiple partitions at once is not
available in this firmware version. It is required to execute host reclaim on one
partition at a time.

Fixed Bugs:
1. Controller failure caused by the IP conflict after the management IP address of
RAID is changed.
2. Controller may reset after a LD is created through Quick Setup.
3. Controller may reset if the management IP address is changed from
Embedded RAIDWatch/SANWatch.
4. ATTN LED incorrectly lights up without event reported on RAID (FC-FC
models only).
5. Incomplete LDs can not be deleted in embedded RAIDWatch.

CLI: 1.0.b.04 or later

Changes:
Cache handling is well enhanced to this firmware version which mainly overcome
irregular human operation, unexpectedly environmental error and comprise of
recovery mechanism.
1. When encountering any unrecoverable errors, the controller will halt instead
of resetting itself.
2. Controller will halt itself when its cache data is produced inconsistency when
an error condition is happened. The halted controller will post messages for
LD and cache status on the RS-232 interface for troubleshooting. Do not
power off controllers once found cached data inconsistency.
3. The rolling firmware upgrade support has been removed.
4. The firmware synchronization support has been removed.
5. Firmware can not be downgraded to a version prior to this one.
6. Controller B will start up about 30~60 seconds after controller A has started.
JBOD will beep one more time when RAID boots up.
Notes:
When a LAN port joins into a trunk group, its LED will light steadily (normally
the LED is blinking) but the LED lighting status doesn’t affect the LAN port
function.

Fixed Bugs:
1. If an iSCSI host channel without a fixed IP address exist, embedded
RAIDWatch can not be connected.
2. If drives are installed without being formed into logical drives and then the
RAID subsystem is shut down from SANWatch, the subsystem might get
stuck in the RC connecting state.

Compatible SANWatch version: 1.3.J.03

Compatible EonPath version: 1.23.2.43 (Windows)

New Features:
1. Infortrend Data Service as add-on features (activated by license keys):
Data Service functions include: Snapshot, Volume Copy, Volume Mirror,
scheduler tool, and Database Flush agent.
Note: Data Service functions are only available through SANWatch’s Storage
Manager console.
2. More flexible use of storage volumes: A logical partition is easily expanded as
long as there is free space in a Logical Volume. A deleted partition returns
disk space to a Logical Volume’s pool of free space without affecting the
existing partitions.

Enhancement or Limitation:
1. Logical IO unit is partition-based. A logical partition is created from a Logical
Volume (LV), but not Logical Drive (LD). An LV is composed of one or more
logical drive(s), and an LV achieves the optimal performance if it is created from
a single logical drive.
2. If more capacity is needed, you can create more Logical Volumes from the disk
drives brought by the EonStor DS series JBODs: e.g., ESDS S16S-J1000-R,
ESDS S16S-J1000-S, etc.
3. A Logical Volume cannot span across multiple RAID enclosures (such as the
Scale-out capability in ESVA).
4. Once a Logical Volume is created, you cannot expand the volume by joining
other Logical Drives.
5. Supports Infortrend bundled drives only, which are defined in QVL.
6. The Shutdown/Restart Logical Volume/Logical Drive function is temporarily not
applicable.
7. The firmware upgradability is temporarily prohibited.
Bugs Fixed:
NA

Known Issues:
1. Fibre Channel topology must be configured as point-to-point to comply with
Qlogic switch SANBOX5802V.
2. After a remote replication license is added, and you create a remote volume
pair, the first attempt will fail. This can be resolved by re-starting SANWatch.
