Point Cloud conversion to 3D Modeling Sofware

A point cloud is a large collecon o points acquired by 3D laser scanners or other technologies to
create 3D representaons o exisng structures.

Laser scan generally performed where any new structure or a unit is added to exisng structure or plant.
Laser scan data comes as point cloud, as name point cloud it is a cloud of points which shows shape of
the buildings and internal, Tanks,
Tanks, Piping, etc., but it is not 3D solid and hence we can not detect clash
with the new and exisng enes.

3D scanners can be used to get complete or paral 3D measurements of any physical object. The
majority of these devices generate points or measures of extremely high density when compared to
tradional “point-by-point”
“point-by-point” measurement devices

Scanning results are represented using free-form, unstructured three-dimensional data, usually in the
form of a point cloud or a triangle mesh. Certain types of scanners also acquire color informaon for
applicaons where this is important. Images/scans are brought into a common reference system, where
data is merged into a complete model. This process -- called alignment or registraon -- can be
performed during the scan itself or as a post-processing step.

Processing point clouds is a relavely new area in the survey business, and presents unique challenges,
and opportunies. The benets to a client are many
many,, if they know the new quesons that can be
answered (like how straight, square or at something is).

sowares to generate point cloud data from laser scan. Structured scan data is mainly coming from Faro,
Leica, Z+F, Riegl and Trimble 3D laser scanners.

There are sowares which converts the cloud data to import in AutoCAD or in other plant design
sowares. Autodesk has Soware named Autodesk RECAP which is compable with al most all scanner
les. Before taking to AutoCAD or any AutoCAD Based Soware
S oware it can be made 3D Mesh view to check
clashes with other enes.
The soware used to process the point clouds and create nal deliverables will vary depending on:
 What scanner was used
 The subject of the scan
 What valuable nal products are to be created

There is soware named as LMF sofware created by LMF soware Ltd. It is an AVIVA Group company.
Using the LFM soware we can import Scan data in PDMS model directly
