1) Describe in your own words what type of research situations require a researcher to use
multiple-regression analysis.
The type of research situations that require one to use multiple-regression analysis are research
using quantitative observational data. This includes questions that involve multiple variables, as
different factors may influence the objective (hence the need for multiple-regression).
2a) Run a basic correlation matrix for the popularity, extraversion, agreeableness,
2b) Based on these results, which personality variables are significantly correlated with
popularity?

Looking at the Sig (2-tailed) row, this is the p-value of comparing each variable to one another.
When the p-value is less than .05, that indicates a significant correlation. Therefore, extraversion
has a strong correlation with openness (.001 p value). Extraversion is not significantly correlated
correlated with only neuroticism, and conscientiousness is significantly correlated with no other
variable. We can also see that extraversion is positively associated with openness because of its

3b) Which variables are significant predictors of popularity? Compare and contrast the results
from the multiple-regression analysis with the basic correlation results from question 2b.
Looking at the p-value and t-value, extraversion and neuroticism are significant, indicating those
are the only significant predictors of personality (p = <.05 and the t-value is large).
Looking at the significant variables, extraversion shows a positive coefficient (9.6 and 4.3), and
3c) What is the R-squared of this model, and what does it tell us about how well this model
predicts popularity?
40% of the variants are explained by the five personality type predictor variables (extraversion,
3d) Write the results of the multiple regression in APA style. For help, refer to the Regression
Multiple regression analysis was used to test if the personality traits significantly
predicted participants' personality ratings. The results of the regression indicated the two
predictors explained 40% of the variance (R2=.64, F(5,37)=5.0, p<.01). It was found that

extraversion significantly predicted high personality scores (β = 9.5, p = .01), while neuroticism
