What is the writer's effect ?

It is the words or language used by a writer and what impression does it create
on the reader.

3 terms to remember for writer's effect

1. Tone- Attitude of the writer we get to known the tone by the words he has
used
2. Mood- It is the feeling of the writer and all the figurative language will
come
3. Diction- It is a fancy word that the writer has used.

Figurative Language

1. Imagery- is a picture or a Long description that writer uses all the 5


senses, the writer has given us a vivid description
2. Metaphor - In which we don’t use as or like
3. Simile- In which we use as or like
4. Onomatopoeia - it is sound words
5. Alliteration- repetition of same alphabet
6. Personification- giving human characteristics to non-living things
7. Hyperbole- to exaggerate something
8. Sibilimes- repetition of s sounds
9. Consonance- repetition of consonant
10. Assonance- repetition of vowels
11.Caesura - A sudden pause in the centre of a line can be shown by any
form of punctuation.
12. Irony- opposite with hidden taunt and some humor
13. Symbolism- Uses symbols to represent something
14. Paradox- It is a strange statement . Eg- Save money by spending
15. Comparison or contrast- The opposite and similarities
16. Juxtaposition- It is a literary device used for comparing items which
are placed side to side like coin
17. Pace of the writer- speed of the writer depends on the sentence,
longer the sentence speed is slow or shorter the sentence the speed is fast
18. Pathetic Fallacy-
19. Implicit- The deeper meaning of authors word
20. Explicit- What language is used by the writer
