1. Test the hypothesis that less than 19% of college students are smokers at the α = 0.07 level.

Hypotheses
H0: list the null hypothesis here
Ha: list the alternative hypothesis here

H0: P ≥ 0.19
Ha: P < 0.19

Assumptions
List assumptions here and show the tests for the assumptions.

Assumption #1. The data was collected randomly.

Assumption #2. The data are Normal. We can confirm normality for proportions by determining
whether the data satisfies Large Counts Condition.

Code
Provide a screenshot of your code here (small screenshot is sufficient) or type out your code in single
spaced format.

Conclusion & Interpretation

Provide conclusion and interpretation here. Make sure to highlight the p-value.

With an alpha value of 0.07 and a p-value of 0.07705, we fail to reject the null and we have
insufficient evidence support that the true proportion of college students who are smokers is less than
19%.

2. Provide and interpret a two-sided 90% confidence interval for the true average hours worked per
week.

Hypotheses are not necessary for this type of question. Simply provide screenshot of code and
conclusion/interpretation. Make sure to highlight the confidence interval.
Conclusion & Interpretation
We are 90% confident that the true average hours worked per week is between 54.93716 and
55.95308.

3. Test the hypothesis that the students’ reaction time is greater than 165 milliseconds at the α = 0.05
level.

Hypotheses
H0: list the null hypothesis here
Ha: list the alternative hypothesis here

H0: µ ≤165 milliseconds

Ha: µ >165 milliseconds

Assumptions
List assumptions here and show the tests for the assumptions.

Assumption #1. The data was collected randomly.

Assumption #2. The data are Normal. The Central Limit Theorem says that the sampling distribution of
a sample with size ≥ 30 will be approximately Normal.

Code
Provide a screenshot of your code here (small screenshot is sufficient) or type out your code in single
spaced format.
Conclusion & Interpretation
Provide conclusion and interpretation here. Make sure to highlight the p-value.

With an alpha of 0.05 and a p-value of 3.67e-06, we reject the null hypothesis and we have sufficient
evidence to support that the true average of student’s reaction time is greater than 165 milliseconds.

4. Provide and interpret a two-sided 97% confidence interval for the true proportion of accounting
majors.

Hypotheses are not necessary for this type of question. Simply provide screenshot of code and
conclusion/interpretation. Make sure to highlight the confidence interval.

Conclusion & Interpretation

We are 97% confident that the true proportion of accounting majors is between 25.53736% and
41.26945%.
