The Malt List
The Malt List
All whisky, gin, vodka and rum in this establishment is served in 35ml
measures, the largest single legal measure available in the UK since the
country was booted into the EU to make new jobs in Brussels for out of
work MP’s. Most other bars serve 25ml- what we offer is 40% more in your
glass. All our malts are served in the Glencairn whisky glass with freshly
poured Scottish spring water.
The Canny Man’s has been given the gold award by Whisky Magazine for
‘outstanding presentation, promotion and knowledge of great whiskies from
around the world.’ We have over 240 malt whiskies here at the Canny
Man’s and some are so rare that they can only be found in private
collections. Enjoy...

ISLAY HIGHLAND SPEYSIDE LOWLAND
‘The Ardbeg 10 is extremely peaty, smoky and complex. This whisky is non-chill filtered and comes in at
46%abv. A powerful Islay malt.’ MK

delicate malt.’ MK
2

Benromach 40%
‘The world’s first completely organic single malt whisky from the Benromach Distillery in Speyside. Sweet
with a little bit of peppery spice.’ MK
‘Not the most intense Islay malt in terms of peatiness. One of the last to produce its own floor malted
barley turned by hand. The 12yo gives you gentle peat smoke with a long and mellow finish.’ MK
3
Brora 1982 43% 10.
‘Progressive Hebridean Distillers is their moto and they are one of the most exciting and creative distillers
at the moment. This 10yr is light and slightly peaty.’ MK

delicate.’ MK
‘Lighter than some other Islay malts. Spicy with vanilla hints.’ MK
4
Cragganmore 1981 40% 7.
CU Dhub 40% 7.
‘One of my personal favourites. The 10yo has a lovely mix of sherry notes with chocolate and orange
flavours. I have had the pleasure of meeting the man who makes the vattings and blendings for the
Dalmore, Mr Richard Patterson. One of the most charismatic men in the industry.’ MK
‘A bottle filled from the last cask ever filled at the Dallas Dhu distillery in Forres. Closed in 1983 and
reopened in 1988 but only as a historic building. A very special malt from a dearly departed distillery.’ MK
Drumguish 40% 8.
‘The smallest distillery in Scotland located in Pitlochry currently independently owned. Spicy and fruity on
the palate.’ MK
5
Finlaggan no statement 40% 8.
‘Glenfarclas belongs to a private family owned company somewhat a rarity in the Speyside region these
days. A complex malt that is crisp and dry with sweet sherry notes.’ MK
6
Glenfiddich 15yo 405 6.
‘The label calls this Edinburgh’s malt which is located roughly 15 miles from where we are. The 12yo is
sweet and fruity. All in all a well balanced malt. Why not pay the distillery a visit?’ MK
7
Glen Mhor 1980 43% 12.
‘The biggest selling malt whisky in Scotland located in Tain that has become increasing focused on wood
finishes. My favourite at the moment is the Lasanta which is the perfect after dinner malt. Sweet with

‘Scotland’s most northerly distillery in Orkney. The 12 yo is a great introduction to malt whisky with a

closed permenantly in 1985 making bottles of Hillside extremely rare.’ MK
9
Kilochman no statement 43% 7.
‘The newest distillery built on Islay and the first to be built in over 100 hundred years! Even though this
malt is young it is full of flavour. Peaty and salty but also sweet. Will be interesting to see how the
distillery develops over the years to come.’ MK
‘Ideal for a post dinner night cap. Some say it has almost a medicinal taste with a distinct taste of seaweed

RARE MALT COLLECTION £100 (all cask strength)
Founded in 1820 this distillery took its name from an old gate to its native cathedral
city of Brechin. The distillery closed its doors in 1983 when the downturn in demand
for malt whisky became too much for it to take. Becoming increasingly rare and
difficult to find.
Licensed in 1797 but possibly earlier in eastern Linlithgow West Lothian. In 1983 the
distillery closed down. There are still bottlings being released but they are becoming
much rarer now.
Nose: aromatic
Palate: malty liquorice, big for a lowland
Finish: robust and peaty
Founded in 1898 the distillery was renowned for its unusually large stills. Closed
production in 1985 at a time many others were doing the same. Very rare.
Nose: woody
Palate: pear, sweet fruit
Finish: dry toasted
