Section A: Reading (20 Marks)

1. Read the following passage and answer the following questions (12 Marks)

Once upon a time, in a dense forest, a lion lay asleep. A little mouse came upon him
unexpectedly and ran across his nose. Roused from his sleep, the lion caught the mouse with
his huge paw and was about to eat him. The poor mouse begged the lion to let him go.
“Please let me go, and someday I will repay your kindness,” the mouse pleaded. The lion was
so amused by the thought of the mouse being able to help him that he let him go.

A few days later, the lion was caught in the hunter’s net. Unable to free himself, he roared
loudly. Hearing the lion’s roar, the mouse quickly ran to the spot. The little mouse gnawed at
the ropes of the net until they broke, setting the lion free. The lion was very grateful and said,
“I never thought that such a small creature could help me.” From that day on, the lion and the
mouse became good friends.

Answer the following questions:

2. Read the following passage and answer the following questions (8 Marks)

An old owl lived in a hollow tree. He was very wise and known to all the animals in the
forest. One day, a young rabbit came running to the owl in distress. “Oh, wise owl, please
help me,” the rabbit cried. “I need to hide from the fox, he is chasing me!”

The owl thought for a moment and then said, “I cannot help you directly, but I can give you
some advice. When you are in danger, stay calm and think. The fox will not catch you if you
use your wits.”
The rabbit was still frightened but decided to follow the owl’s advice. As the fox came closer,
the rabbit found a small hole in the ground and quickly hid inside. The fox searched all
around but could not find the rabbit. After some time, the fox gave up and left the forest.

The rabbit thanked the owl for his wise advice and promised never to run around in panic
again. The wise owl smiled and said, “Remember, a calm mind can solve many problems.”

1. You are the Head Boy/Head Girl of your school. Your school is organizing a "Talent Show" for
students of all classes. Write a notice informing the students about the event, mentioning the date,
time, venue, and how to register for participation. (4 Marks)

2. Write an essay on any one of the following topics (6 Marks)

My Favorite Season
Describe your favorite season and explain why you like it. Discuss the weather, activities, and special
things you enjoy during that season.

The Benefits of Reading Books


Discuss how reading books can benefit you. Talk about what kinds of books you enjoy and
how they help you learn and grow.

1. Read the extracts given below and answer the following questions (4x4=16)
