4. Ingestion is the process by which food is taken into the body of an organism. How is this 1
process different in Amoeba and Paramoecium?

5. Fe + CuSO4 → Cu + FeSO4 1
List two observations for the above-mentioned reaction.

Questions 6-8 consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Answer these
questions by selecting the appropriate option given below:
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.

6. Assertion(A) : The formula connecting ‘u’, ‘v’ and ‘f’ for a spherical mirror is valid in all 1
situations for all spherical mirrors for all positions of the object.
Reason (R) : Laws of reflection are strictly valid for plane surfaces.

7. Assertion: At night CO2 release is the major exchange activity occurring in plants. 1
Reason: At night respiration and photosynthesis occur side by side in plants.

8. Assertion: When Zinc is added to a solution of iron (II)sulphate, no change is observed. 1

Reason: Zinc is more reactive than iron.

9. The magnification of a mirror is ‘—1’. Identify the type of the mirror and nature of image 1

10. What is rust chemically? Give the chemical formula of rust. 1

11. Identify and name the type of reaction given below: 1

!"#$
2Cu (NO3)2 > 2CuO + O2 + 4NO2

SECTION B (6 x 2 = 12 marks)
12. Classify the given reactions as endothermic or exothermic. 2
a. Burning of natural gas
b. Reaction between barium hydroxide and ammonium chloride.
c. Photosynthesis
d. Respiration

13. Explain the key events involved in photosynthesis. 2

14. How do you prepare slaked lime from quick lime? Write the chemical equation involved. 2
OR
When a black metal compound XO is heated with a colourless gas Y2, metal X and a
compound Y2O(liquid at room temperature) are formed. X is reddish brown in colour and
does not react with dilute acids. Y2 can also be prepared by the action of dilute acid on any
active metal.
a. Name X and Y.
b. Write the balanced chemical equation for the reaction of XO with Y2.

15. A student recorded the following data for the values of the object distance and corresponding 2
image distance while performing an experiment on real image formation by a converging
mirror of focal length 25 cm. Two of the observations are incorrect. Without making any
calculations, identify these observations and give reason for your choice.

16. In the given experiment, why does the leaf from the set up ‘b’ turn blue-black after putting 2
iodine solution and not the leaf from ‘a’?

OR
How is required pH maintained in the stomach and small intestine?
Give the scientific reason for requirement of varied pH in the stomach and small intestine.

17. Observe the diagram of electrolysis of 2

water and answer the questions:

a. Name the gas collected in balloon B

and mention the ratio of gases collected
in balloons A and B respectively.
b. Name the electrode E and F.

SECTION C (4 x 3 = 12 marks)

18. An erect image 2 times the size of the object is obtained with a converging mirror of radius 3
of curvature 18 cm. Calculate the position of the object. Draw the ray diagram for the image
formation.

19. Given below is the diagram of human digestive system. 3

a) Identify the location of two sphincters by mentioning the respective number from the
given diagram.
b) What happens if these sphincters get weak or impaired? Explain each specifically.

into balloon like structures of lungs.

e) List any one adaptive structural feature of trachea prevent collapse.

f) How is Oxygen transported in human blood?

21. a. Translate the given word equation into a balanced chemical equation: 3
Ammonium hydroxide + Aluminium chloride → Ammonium chloride +
Aluminium hydroxide.
