This chapter introduces the NE management of the maintenance terminal.

3.2 Shortcut Menu in the Blank Area

3.2.1 Adding an NE

I. Description

This operation enables you to add an NE.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have log in to the system as an administrator.

III. Note

The ID number, as the unique identity of a NE, cannot be modified once being set. Its
value range is 0–255.

IV. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.

Step Action
In the pane that appears, right click the blank area, and select Create NE to
display the Set NE Properties dialog box, as shown below.

Set the NE properties.

4 Click OK.

V. Parameter description

Table 3-1 describes the parameters for setting the NE properties.

Table 3-1 NE property parameter

Parameter Description
ID The ID number of the NE to be added.
Name The name of the NE to be added.
Version The version of the NE to be added.
The IP address of the NE to be added, which must be the same as
IP Address
that of the SYNLOCK V3 BITS to be monitored.

The port number of the port monitored by the SYNLOCK V3 BITS.

Port Number
It is 3000 by default.

The serial port through which the maintenance terminal is

Serial Port connected to the SYNLOCK V3 BITS. It must be the same as that
defined on the maintenance terminal.
The baud rate of the serial port on the maintenance terminal. It is
Baud Rate
9600 by default. The default value is recommended.

3.2.2 Adding an NE Group

I. Description

This operation enables you to add an NE group.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have log in to the system.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.
In the pane that appears, right click the blank area, and select Create NE
Group to display the Create NE Group dialog box, as shown below.

3 Select the parent group and input the group name.

4 Click OK.

3.2.3 Setting the Background View

I. Description

This operation enables you to set the background view.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have log in to the system.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.

In the pane that appears, right click the blank area, and select Set
Background Picture to display the Open dialog box, as shown below.

3 Select the desired background view, and click Open.

3.2.4 Displaying the NE Table View

I. Description

This operation enables you to display the NE table view.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have log in to the system.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.

In the pane that appears, right click the blank area, and select NE Table
View to display the NE Table View dialog box, as shown below.

Select a record, and right click.

3.2.5 Setting Background Properties

I. Description

This operation enables you to set background properties.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have log in to the system.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.

In the pane that appears, right click the blank area, and select Background
Properties to display the Bottom Properties dialog box, as shown below.

3 Keep the parameters as their default settings, and click OK.

3.3 Shortcut Menu of the Local Terminal Node

3.3.1 Adding a Sub-group

I. Description

This operation enables you to add a sub-group under an NE group.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have log in to the system.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.
In the pane that appears, right click the local terminal node, and select
Create Sub-group to display the Create NE Group dialog box, as shown
below.

3 Select the parent group and input the group name.

4 Click OK.

3.3.2 Adding a Sub-NE

I. Description

This operation enables you to add a sub-NE to an NE group or sub-group.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have logged in to the system as an administrator.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.

In the pane that appears, right click the local terminal node, and select
Create Sub-NE to display the Set NE Properties dialog box as shown
below.

Set the NE properties.

3.3.3 Querying NE Group Properties

I. Description

This operation enables you to query the NE group properties.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have logged in to the system.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.
In the pane that appears, right click the local terminal node, and select
Group Properties to display the Group Properties dialog box, as shown
below.

3 View the name, creation time and member of the NE group.

4 Click OK.

Note:
z You can only query the group properties of the local terminal node.
z You can modify or delete other NE groups.

3.4 Shortcut Menu of the NE Group

The functions of the shortcut menu of the NE group are basically the same as that of
the local terminal node. For details, see "3.3 Shortcut Menu of the Local Terminal
Node".
The difference lies in that:
z If there is sub-NE under the NE group, you can modify the group properties and
delete the sub-NE.
z If there is no sub-NE under the NE group, you can delete the NE group.

3.5 Shortcut Menu of the NE

3.5.1 Monitoring SYNLOCK V3 BITS

I. Description

This operation enables you to display the board monitoring window.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have logged in to the system.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.
In the pane that appears, right click an NE, and select Data Monitoring to
2 display the Board Monitoring window.
For details, see Chapter 6 "Monitoring and Maintenance".

3.5.2 Querying Alarms

I. Description

This operation enables you to display the alarm management window.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have logged in to the system.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.
In the pane that appears, right click an NE, and select Alarm Query to
2 display the Alarm Manager window.

3.5.3 Querying Performance Data

I. Description

This operation enables you to query the performance data, including:

z TIE data
z MTIE data
z TDEV data
z FREQ data

II. Prerequisites

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have logged in to the system.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.
(Here, take the TDEV data as an example) In the pane that appears, select
an NE, right click and select Host Performance > Host TDEV Performance
2 to display the TDEV curve dialog box.
For details, see "7.4 Performance Management".

3.5.4 Querying Logs

I. Description

This operation enables you to display the log management window.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have logged in to the system.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.
In the pane that appears, right click an NE, and select Host Log
2 Management to display the Log Management window.

3.5.5 Querying Device Version

I. Description

This operation enables you to query the device version.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have logged in to the system as an administrator.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.
2 In the pane that appears, right click an NE, and select Query BITS Version.

3 In the prompt dialog box that appears, view the device version, and click OK.

3.5.6 Configuring Data

I. Description

This operation enables you to display the data configuration window.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have logged into the system.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.

3.5.7 Modifying NE Connection Properties

I. Description

This operation enables you to modify NE connection properties.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have logged into the system.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.

In the pane that appears, right click an NE, and select Modify NE
Connection Properties to display a dialog box as shown below.

Modify the parameters except ID.

3.5.8 Modifying NE Properties

I. Description

This operation enables you to modify NE properties.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have logged in to the system as an administrator.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.
In the pane that appears, right click an NE, and select Modify BITS
Properties to display a dialog box as shown below.

Modify the parameters.

IV. Parameter descripiton

Table 3-2 describes the parameters for modifying NE properties.

Table 3-2 Remote modification of NE properties

Parameter Description
Identifier The identity of the device.
IP Address The IP address of the NE.
Subnet Mask The IP address to separate different network segment.
Gateway The connection or switching point of independent IP networks.
The port number of the port monitored by the SYNLOCK V3
Port Number
BITS. It is 3000 by default.

MAC Address The physical address of the device.

Baud Rate of The baud rate of serial port 1. It is 9600 by default. It is
Serial Port 1 recommended that the value to be set to 19200 or 38400.

Baud Rate of The baud rate of serial port 2. It is 9600 by default. It is

Serial Port 2 recommended that to set it to 19200 or 38400.

Specifies whether to adopt SLIP by serial port 1. If yes, you must

input the local IP address and the remote IP address.
SLIP Parameter z Local IP: The IP address of the serial port of BITS main
of Serial Port 1 control board while adopting SLIP.
z Remote IP: The IP address of the remote end while adopting
SLIP.
Specifies whether to adopt SLIP by serial port 2. If yes, you must
input the local IP address and the remote IP address.
SLIP Parameter z Local IP: The IP address of the serial port of BITS main
of Serial Port 2 control board while adopting SLIP.
z Remote IP: The IP address of the remote end while adopting
SLIP.

3.5.9 Setting NE Group

I. Description

This operation enables you to set NE group.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have logged in to the system.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.
In the pane that appears, right click an NE, and select Set NE Group to
display the Please Select NE Group dialog box as shown below.

3 Select the desired NE group in the Group drop-down list.

4 Click OK.

3.5.10 Deleting an NE

I. Description

This operation enables you to delete an NE.

II. Prerequisite

Before the operation, make sure that:

z The maintenance terminal software is properly installed.
z You have logged in to the system as an administrator.

III. Procedure

Step Action
1 Double click the NE view node on the navigation tree.

2 In the pane that appears, right click an NE, and select Delete NE.
3 In the confirmation dialog box that appears, click OK.
