In this novel, the story begins with Xie Lian’s third ascension to godhood, 800 years after his previous
fall. He is now a humble, dept-ridden god who collects scraps and relies on the kindness of others.
This god’s past is shrouded in mystery, but we learn he was once a beloved god, worshipped by
millions. However, his reputation was tarnished by a series of events that led to his downfall.
Although, his past will soon be revealed on later books. Xie Lian was called for a god meeting, where
the martial gods and cultivators would talk about increasingly deaths at the human realm. Xie Lian
then offered to take care of the mess himself, therefore, he was sent down to the human realm. As he
walks through the paths he got hungry, so he went to eat. While he sat down and started to eat, that’s
when he saw two of the other gods disguised as humans. Here, we met Mu Qing or Fu Yao, and
Feng Xin or Nan Feng. The two minor god officials sent to assist Xie Lian on his misson. Who would
soon be Xie Lian’s companions. The two are constantly fighting with each other, but their bickering
hides a genuine concern for the prince. Together, they investigated the mysterious events. One of my
most favorite scenes during this novel happened during these investigations. Wanna know what? It
was when Xie Lian cross dressed as a Chinese bride in all red because they couldn’t find anyone
willing to do so. This is also connected to the scene where a mysterious hand came to guide Xie Lian
out through the gloomy forest while still crossdressing. At the end, Feng Xin and Qi Rong went back
to the heaven realm to report to their current leader. Leaving Xie Lian at the human realm.
He goes to a village and he would try to live a normal life collecting scraps and even setting up a
temple for himself, claiming to be a follower of his even though they were the same person. On Xie
Lian’s way back to his temple where he also called his home, he acquired company with another
person while riding on a small cart he asked one of the villagers to be on. The stranger introduced
himself with the name “San Lang”. Which if you ask me, is a really cute name. Happy to be able to
have a new companion around, Xie Lian would give San Lang a friendly smile as they eventually
started a conversation together. When Xie Lian arrived at the temple, San Lang offered to come
along and help him out setting up the temple. San Lang was a mysterious yet handsome and
hardworking young man who offers Xie Lian companionship. His true identity remains shrouded in
secrecy. And yes, Xie Lian knew that wasn’t Sang Lang’s true identity, but his unwavering support
and playful nature draw Xie Lian to him. San Lang would remain Xie Lian’s companion, their complex
bonds and times together always leaves fans satisfied with the loving fluff of the story. Even after Fu
Yao and Nan Feng returning, San Lang eagerly stayed by Xie Lian’s side, as if a lost puppy adoring
his owner. Several heart racing and action filled appeared on the next chapters later on, and yet all
the way, San Lang didn’t leave Xie Lian.
It wasn’t long until one of the problems on the human realm were solved, specifically, a particular
issue regarding a few ghosts and Ban Yue, a former imperial preceptor of the fallen Ban Yue kingdom
turned ghost about 150 years ago. She was declared a traitor after allowing the invading army into
the city. Xie Lian was associated with this girl, she used to be a young, joyful kid Xie Lian knew before
ascending for the third time. During this arc, the heavenly gods Shi Quingxuan, the lord wind master.
And Ming Yi, alias black water. It was during this arc that Xie Lian has become clear of San Lang’s
identity. His strength and contribution during this arc was clear to Xie Lian, making him know he was
Hua Cheng. Now, you must wonder WHO is Hua Cheng? Hua Cheng is none only but the ghost king,
also known as the Crimson Rain Sought Flower. The calamity that gods fear, with only the mention of
hid name spine chilling enough for gods to constantly be afraid of him. Why? It was said that Hua
Cheng had burned the temples and beat 33 gods in one night, all for the reason of them humiliating
and bullying Xie Lian. But ofcourse, due to all the troubles caused, it led Xie Lian to be sent Great
Martial Hall, the number one martial palace in Heaven. There, he faced Jun Wu. Jun Wu is the
heavenly emperor who presides over the heavenly realm, as well as the oldest and most powerful
martial gods. He was sent here not just due to the trouble he caused at the human realm, but also
due to Pei Ming, the martial god of the north which is one of the Four Famous Tales along with Shi
Quingxuan, and his rage because of how Pei Xiu, the middle court subordinate of Pei Ming got
injured. But since the lord wind master had witnessed everything that has happened, he stepped in to
defend Xie Lian. Talk about gurlboss!!!
Although, despite it, Jun Wu still scolded Xie Lian. Not like a boss, but like a father to his child. After
the meeting, Jun Wu would speak to Xie Lian privately, telling him to stay away from Hua Cheng.
During this scene, I literally roll my eyes and scoff at Jun Wu, he cant just tell my precious XL to stay
away from the love of his life like that! Thankfully, Xie Lian didn’t listen. Because during the ghost city
arc where Xie Lian, along with the lord wind master, Shi Quingxuan, they headed to the ghost city
where Xie Lian eventually meets with San Lang, or should I say Hua Cheng. But this time was
different, Hua Cheng wasn’t San Lang anymore, he was now in his real form. I guess you could say
Xie Lian looked mesmerized, after all, San Lang once said that his real form was ugly, but it didn’t
even look near ugly at all. This part is where Book 1 ends, there are more books and more stories. If
you ask me, id definitely recommend. I cannot fully explain how this novel changed me and made me
read more novels, but one things for sure. I absolutely love this novel, and I hope others would feel
the same when they read it. That is all for now, thank you very much for listening!
