Ans. The solar system consist of the stars, planets including
Earth and Moon orbiting around the sun.
ii.How is sun important for us?
Ans. The sun is very important for us because it provides us light and
heat.
iii. (a) Define the rotation of the earth and give an example.
Ans. The earth moves around the sun. As it moves around the sun it also
spins like a top, this movement is called rotation.
(b) Illustrate earths rotation with a fully labeled diagram.
A. To spin on an axis about 24 hours one. Its rotation cause day and
night.
iv.Write about the movement of the sun during the day.
Ans.The sun is the brightest star in the sky . The sun rises and sets. It
happens at different time and different places due to earth’s rotation.
Actually the earth rotates around the sun, but we feel the sun is moving.
v.Explain the following:
a. Shadow:
A shadow is made when lights fall on an object but can
not pass through an object . The object blocks the light,
It makes a dark shape. This dark shape is called a shadow.

b.Shape of a shadow:
The position of the sun in the sky effects the light, direction and the shape of
the shadow cast on earth.
c.Size of the shadow:
Shadow will always form on the side that face away from the sun. The
shadow of an object is always in the same shape as the object but not always
same in size.

d.Cardinal directions:
North, south, east and west are known as cardinal directions.
