SOA Puzzle 25 - Solution

Score Points
Ailsa, Bruce, Catriona and Douglas were competitors at a Score event – the sketch map
shows the routes they took. Each control is numbered and the number in brackets shows
the points for that control. The time limit for the event was 30 minutes, with a 1 point
penalty for each 6 seconds late (e.g. 5 secs = minus 1 point; 7 secs = minus 2 points).

Their times were as follows:


Ailsa (A) 32:05 Bruce (B) 28:20
Catriona (C) 30:10 Douglas (D) 29:50
1. Who visited most controls?
2. Who scored the most points?
3. Whose final score was highest?

Solution

1. Bruce visited most controls


2. Ailsa, Catriona and Douglas all scored 130 points
3. Douglas had the highest final score
