1. Find the volume, the total surface area and the lateral surface area of a cuboid which is 15 m
long, 12 m wide and 4.5 m high.
2. A room is 16 m long, 9 m wide and 3 m high. It has two doors, each of dimensions (2 m # 1.5
m) and three windows, each of dimensions (1.6 m # 75 cm). Find the cost of distempering
the walls of the room from inside at the rate of ` 50 per square metre.
3. Find the volume, total surface area, lateral surface area and the length of diagonal of a cube,
each of whose edges measures 20 cm.
4. The lateral surface area of a cube is 324 cm sq . Find its volume and the total surface area.
5. Water flows in a tank 60 *40 m m # at the base through a pipe whose cross section is 2 dm
by 1.5 dm at the speed of 8 km per hour. In what time will the water be 5 metres deep
6. How many bricks will be required to construct a wall 8 m long, 6 m high and 22.5 cm thick if
each brick measures (25 cm # 11.25 cm # 6 cm)?
7. The surface area of a cuboid is 758 cm2 . Its length and breadth are 14 cm and 11 cm
respectively. Find its height.
8. A solid metallic cuboid of dimensions ( ) 982 mmm # # is melted and recast into solid cubes
of edge 2 m. Find the number of cubes so formed.
9. The sum of radius of the base and height of a cylinder is 37 m. If the total surface area of the
cylinder is 1628 m , 2 fi nd the curved surface area and volume of the cylinder.
10. Find the area of the chart paper used to make the curved surface of a model of cylindrical
kaleidoscope of length 25 cm and radius 3.5 cm.
11. In a water heating system, there is a cylindrical pipe of length 28 m and diameter 5 cm. Find
the total radiating surface in the system.
12. 1 cm3 of gold is drawn into a wire 0.1 mm in diameter. Find the length of the wire.
13. The difference between inside and outside surfaces of a cylindrical tube 14 cm long, is 88 cm
. 2 If the volume of the tube is 176 cm , 3 fi nd the inner and outer radii of the tube.
14. Find the volume, curved surface area and the total surface area of a cone having base radius
35 cm and height 12 cm.
15. How many metres of cloth, 2.5 m wide, will be required to make a conical tent whose base
radius is 7 m and height 24 m?
16. Water fl ows at the rate of 10 metres per minute through a cylindrical pipe 5 mm in
diameter. How long would it take to fi ll a conical vessel whose diameter at the surface is 40
cm and depth 24 cm?
17. A cylinder and a cone have equal radii of their bases and equal heights. If their curved
surface areas are in the ratio 8 : 5, show that the radius and height of each has the ratio 3 : 4
18. The diameter of a copper sphere is 18 cm. It is melted and drawn into a long wire of uniform
cross section. If the length of the wire is 108 m, fi nd its diameter.
19. How many lead balls, each of radius 1 cm, can be made from a sphere of radius 8 cm?
20. A hollow spherical shell is made of a metal of density 4.5 g per cm3 . If its internal and
external radii are 8 cm and 9 cm respectively, fi nd the weight of the shell.
21. The diameter of the moon is approximately one fourth of the diameter of the earth. What
fraction of the volume of the earth is the volume of the moon?
22. The radii of two cylinders are in the ratio 2 : 3 and their heights are in the ratio 5 : 3. The
ratio of their volumes is (a) 27 : 20 (b) 20 : 27 (c) 4 : 9 (d) 9 : 4
23. The number of coins 1.5 cm in diameter and 0.2 cm thick to be melted to form a right
circular cylinder of height 10 cm and diameter 4.5 cm is (a) 540 (b) 450 (c) 380 (d) 472
24. The height of a cone is 24 cm and the diameter of its base is 14 cm. The curved surface area
of the cone is (a) 528 cm2 (b) 550 cm2 (c) 616 cm2 (d) 704 cm2
25. A cone, a hemisphere and a cylinder stand on equal bases and have the same height. The
ratio of their volumes is (a) 1 : 2 : 3 (b) 2 : 1 : 3 (c) 2 : 3 : 1 (d) 3 : 2 : 1
