Fuel Sampling
Fuel Sampling
WARNING: PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITIO
N BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
- THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
- THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
- THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
- COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
MOVEMENT OF COMPONENTS CAN KILL OR CAUSE INJURY TO PERSO
NS AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
NOTE: If possible, Airbus recommends you to do the water drain procedure before
the flight or the refuel procedure. If you do this procedure after the flight o
r the refuel procedure, you must wait for one hour for the separation of the
water and the fuel.
NOTE: It is permitted to do this procedure when the APU is in operation only if the
fuel tank pumps are set to OFF.
For indirect water drain-valves:
If you have less than 10% content of the fuel, then the indirect water drain-valves
will have a decreased flow.
If you have less than 10% content of the fuel it is recommended that you fill more f
uel or use the suction procedure.

B. Safety Precautions
NOTE: Removal of the fuel samples in less than 60 minutes will not r
emove the water content as satisfactorily as samples removed
one hour after the refuel procedure.
NOTE: Airbus recommends you that not to apply unusually high force
to open the water drain valve.
(6) If the APU is in operation during this procedure, you must make sure th
at the fuel tank pumps are set to OFF.

SUBTASK 12-32-28-281-050-B
A. Fuel Sampling for Water Contamination
(1) Gravity Procedure:
(a) For the gravity procedure, you can use the TOOL-PURGING (97A
28002117002) to drain the fuel from the wing tanks and the ce
ntre tank, but it does not prevent leaks.
(b) For indirect water drain-valves, make sure that the fuel tanks ar
e filled to a minimum of 10% of capacity. This is necessary to c
over the water drain-valve outlet, so that the water drain valves
can operate satisfactorily.
(f) Do the sample removal procedure at all the water drain valves.
(2) Suction Procedure:
5 Turn the nut (5) until it touches and seals against the bott
om skin.
8 Hold the bush (2) and turn the screw (4) clockwise to its s
top:
15 Turn the nut (5) until it does not touch the bottom skin.
16 Turn the hexagonal end of the bush (2) 30 deg (30 deg):
(3) Do a test for the microbiological contamination in less than 10 days, if:
(b) You can see particles in the sample Ref. AMM TASK 12-32-28-28
1-003.
SUBTASK 12-32-28-750-050-A
B. Water Contamination Test
NOTE: This procedure gives the instructions to find the water content in the
drained sample.
This procedure is applicable to find out if the drained sample contain
s water.
(1) Let the sample become stable:
(a) If the sample moves into two layers it contains water. Drain the
water from the water drain valve continuously until it has no wat
er.
5. Close-up
SUBTASK 12-32-28-410-050-B
A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other item
s.
(2) Close the applicable access door:
SUBTASK 12-32-28-440-050-A
C. Reactivation of the VHF Antenna
(1) If deactivated, do the reactivation of the VHF antenna after maintenanc
e Ref. AMM TASK 23-12-00-440-802.
