1. Reason for the Job

Refer to the MPD TASK: 281100-01
DRAIN WATER CONTENT
You can do this task together with TASK 12-32-28-281-003-A (Sample Fuel for Micr
obiological Contamination Analysis) and TASK 12-32-28-281-802-A (Sample Fuel for
Hydraulic-Oil Contamination Analysis). If you are sampling for microbiological conta
mination of fuel do task 12-32-28-281-003-A instead of this task. If you do the Micr
obiological/Hydraulic-Oil Contamination Analysis, you must clean the applicable drai
n tool and the container as given in the AMM tasks.

NOTE: If possible, Airbus recommends you to do the water drain procedure before
the flight or the refuel procedure. If you do this procedure after the flight o
r the refuel procedure, you must wait for one hour for the separation of the
water and the fuel.
NOTE: It is permitted to do this procedure when the APU is in operation only if the
fuel tank pumps are set to OFF.
For indirect water drain-valves:
If you have less than 10% content of the fuel, then the indirect water drain-valves
will have a decreased flow.
If you have less than 10% content of the fuel it is recommended that you fill more f
uel or use the suction procedure.

A. Fuel Sampling for Water Contamination
(1) Gravity Procedure:

(a) For the gravity procedure, you can use the TOOL-PURGING (97A
28002117002) to drain the fuel from the wing tanks and the ce
ntre tank, but it does not prevent leaks.

1 It is recommended to use the TOOL - PURGING (98A2810

4000002) to drain the fuel from the centre tank and the
PURGER-WATER DRAIN (98A28104000000) to drain the f
uel from the wing tanks.

(b) For indirect water drain-valves, make sure that the fuel tanks ar
e filled to a minimum of 10% of capacity. This is necessary to c
over the water drain-valve outlet, so that the water drain valves
can operate satisfactorily.

(c) For the wing-tank water drain-valves:

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE PLUNGER OF THE TOOL

ALIGNS CORRECTLY WITH THE WATER DRAIN
VALVE. INCORRECT ALIGNMENT OF THE TOOL
CAN CAUSE:
- THE WATER DRAIN VALVE TO STAY IN T
HE OPEN POSITION AFTER THE TOOL IS

1 Push the center of the applicable water drain valve with th
e PURGER-WATER DRAIN (98A28104000000):

a Drain approximately 1.0 l (0.26 USgal) of fuel from

the water drain valve.

NOTE: The surge tanks are the temporary tanks t

hat are made to collect fuel that can overfl
ow from the vent lines. Usually, no fuel ca
n be drained from the surge tanks.

2 Remove the PURGER-WATER DRAIN (98A28104000000) fr

om the water drain valve.

(d) For the center-tank water drain-valves:

1 Push the center of the applicable water drain valve with th

e TOOL - PURGING (98A28104000002):

a Drain approximately 1.0 l (0.26 USgal) of fuel from

the water drain valve.

2 Remove the TOOL - PURGING (98A28104000002) from th

e water drain valve.

3 Examine the water drain valve for fuel leakage:

a If the water drain valve does leak, use the TOOL - P

URGING (98A28104000002) to push (in) and releas
e (out) the center of the valve three or four times.

b Make sure that there are no leaks.

c This step is very important at center-tank water-dra

in-valves 94QM and 95QM, where access is not eas
y.

(e) Put the fuel sample into the CONTAINER-CLEAN, STERILIZED, TR

ANSPARENT GLASS or CONTAINER-FUEL RESISTANT, TRANSPAR
ENT PLASTIC. If you do not do the analysis immediately, seal the
container.

(f) Do the sample removal procedure at all the water drain valves.
(2) Suction Procedure:

(a) If you use the TOOL-PURGING (97A28002117002), do the steps

that follow:

1 You must use an approved type of PUMP - SUCTION (ATEX

APPROVED) for use on a fuel system:
