Utilizing the Aruba IAP 305

Restoring Factory Defaults


When doing the procedures in this document, you must use safe work practices and wear the correct
personal protective equipment (for example, safety eyewear) according to your company's standard
operating procedures.

Purpose

This Service Bulletin serves as an instruction to recover an Aruba IAP 305 back to factory defaults.

There have been reports of this AP losing its IP address for unknown reasons. This can show up as an IP
address of 0.0.0.0 and leads to replacement. With the difficulty to replace this part in some regions, the
initial action is to have the field be able to recover the AP onsite.

The instructions below details step‐by‐step to recover the AP back to the Factory settings using a
console cable, and then to set to the Carestream default settings.

Note
A serial to USB Cable can be locally acquired. Be aware that the wire colors may vary.

Prerequisites

1. Console Port and Cable


a. Identify the Aruba Console Port

b. Acquire the Console Cable
i. The Aruba JW071A
ii. The Olimex USB‐Serial‐F (pinout below)

2. Service Portal Download


a. Download and extract the file Aruba IAP 305 Factory Reset.zip
b. Install Tera Term v4.102
c. Install the PL2303 Driver

Instructions

Console Setup
1. Setup the AP in its Power over Ethernet configuration but do not plug into AP.
2. Plug in the Console Cable.

3. Plug the Console Cable into the Service laptop.


4. Open Device Manager.

5. Confirm the COM port that the AP is using.

7. Open Tera Term.
8. Select Serial. The COM port should match with Device Manager:

9. Under Setup, select Serial port.

10. Ensure that the settings match the image below. The COM port may be different.

11. Click OK.


12. Plug in the POE Cable in the Aruba AP.
13. View the logging session as the AP boots. The AP will be blinking green as this happens.
This may take several minutes.

Factory Reset

14. The AP is ready once the ready prompt line appears. The AP will have an orange LED and a
Flashing LED at this point. You are now ready to login.

15. Press Enter. “User” will appear.


16. Type admin
17. When password appears, type admin

Note
A tech‐support message followed by the MAC address of the AP will appear with a (#).
Commands can now be accepted.

18. To view the current IP address type show interface ip brief


19. If the IP address shows 0.0.0.0, then the AP will need to reset back to factory defaults.

20. Type write erase all reboot

Note
Alternatively, remove power from the AP and wait 30 seconds. Using a thin object, such a paper
clip, press and hold the reset button and apply power to the AP. This will manually reset the AP
to factory defaults.

21. Log in to the AP using the previous credentials.


22. View the IP address. The AP will now use a default IP address. This can vary.

23. Under File, select Send file

24. Find and select the file setup_rw.cmds.mssid from the Aruba IAP 305 Factory defaults folder.
25. Click Open. The file download will take a few minutes.

Note
If errors other than what is described as “% Parse Error” are found, remove power from the AP,
wait 30 seconds and start again from a manual reset. If the errors persist, the AP needs to be
replaced.

26. Wait until the text shows “configuration committed” and the MAC address appears again.

27. Type enable, press Enter.


28. Type config, press Enter.
29. After the message, type no virtual‐controller‐country
30. Type Exit
31. Type write memory
32. After configuration is saved, type reload
33. To confirm reset, type y

34. After a few minutes, the AP will reboot and return to the ready line.

35. Press Enter, User will appear.
36. Type admin as the user.
37. For the password, type BiiHE94YYL6EXk

Note
A tech‐support message followed by the MAC address of the AP will appear with a (#).
Commands can now be accepted.

38. Confirm the CSH default.


39. Type show ip interface brief
40. Confirm the IP address is 10.0.1.254
41. Type show network
42. Confirm the Profile Name and ESSID is Sundance, and the Band is 5.0

43. Once the settings are confirmed, type Exit


44. Open a web browser.
45. In the URL type 10.0.1.254 and press Enter

Note
If the warning message This site is not secure appears, select More information, and select Go
to the webpage not recommended.

46. Enter the IP address into a web browser to log in to the web client.
47. Type the Username admin
48. Type the password BiiHE94YYL6EXk

Note
This will enter the Aruba Web Client Interface. At this point, the Country will need to be set.
