TECHNICAL BULLETIN — UPDATING TO VMD SP2:

Installation & Setup


Introduction: The information in this guide explains the process for upgrading the currently installed VMD Service Pack 1
software to VMD Service Pack 2.

Please Note:
• Download Links for the VMD program are located on page 8 of this document.
• Please Read Page 8 carefully before proceeding with the software update.
• If the machine has a touch screen, plug in a USB mouse and keyboard for ease of use during the instruction guide.
• Install the Service Pack 2 programs in the order described in this guide.

Step 1: Close the VMD software by swiping on the left side of the
touch screen to the right. This will minimize the screen.
Select the X icon in the upper right hand corner of the VMD
software screen. This will close the VMD program. Power off
the Accumove Controller as well.

Step 2: Before uninstalling SP1, back up all g-code job files (.gm files).

• Open File Explorer from the PC task bar (folder icon)

• Select This PC

• Select the (C:). This may be titled as OSDisk, Windows, etc

• Open the Controller Data folder

Left mouse click once on the Jobs folder,


Step 3: then right mouse click once, and select Copy.

Select a location on the computer to paste a


backup of the jobs folder such as the Documents
folder by left mouse clicking once followed by a
right mouse click, then Paste.

Step 4: • Right Mouse click on the windows icon, then select search.

• In the search bar type Programs.

• Under best match at the top of the list. Select Add or


remove programs.

Step 5: In the programs list, uninstall the following programs in the


order as followed

• VMD Nest SAP

• Crystal ReportsVisual

• Machine Designer

Uninstall each program by left clicking once and selecting


Uninstall. When uninstalling, follow the prompts for a
complete removal.

Step 6: While VMD is being uninstalled there will be a window prompt
to close the registry services. Select Ok to continue.

After uninstalling the software select Yes to Restart the


computer. It is Extremely Important that this done.

Step 7: When the computer is finished booting back up select the


file explorer, navigate back to the (C:) drive, and delete the
following folders:

• ShopData_v3.9

• ControllerData

• Backup-ControllerData

Left click on each folder then press delete on the key board.

On a separate PC, download the SP2 software installation and

onto an external storage device, such as a USB thumb drive or
external hard drive.

Step 9: Right mouse click on VMD Nest, and select Run as
Administrator. Wait at least 1 to 2 minutes for the installation
to begin.

VMD Nest will first install SAP Crystal Reports. This is normal
and required. Select Install to load SAP Crystal Reports.

Step 10: After SAP Crystal reports installs, InstallShield Wizard will
prompt to install VMD Nest. There is nothing that needs to be
configured specifically for the program. It will only require a
series of Next and Install selections. When the install is done,
left mouse click on Finish. The completed install of VMD Nest
does not require a restart of the PC.

Right mouse click on VMD Setup 4.8.9.2 SP2.exe. Left mouse

click on Run as Administrator InstallShield Wizard will load
the program to completion. Left mouse click on Finish to
complete the installation.

VMD Setup 4.8.9.2 SP2.exe does require a restart after the


installation is finished. Failing to restart after the install may
result in issues with the software use.

Step 12: When the computer finishes booting up, SP2 will launch
on its own.If the computer has tablet mode turned off, and
VMD doesn’t immediately launch, swipe from left to right to
view the minimized VMD program. Touch the VMD screen to
maximize the view.

Step 13: VMD SP2 is set by default for a FlexCut 80 plasma cutter. This
may need to be changed in VMD to match the machine. Select
the Log On button in the lower left area of the VMD software.
In the window that appears, select the Admin profile and enter
the Password: 1234. The screen will flicker and the display will
change.

This will open the Options window. Of the series of tabs at the
top of the window, select the Commission Accumove tab.

The only necessary changes in this menu are:

• Machine Type = Model of CNC table (example: 4400,


Torchmate X, 5100, etc)

• Plasma Type = Model of plasma cutter used by CNC table.

• Units = by default this is set to Inches

*Water Level Setup is only used with a 5100 water table.*

Select Ok when the changes are made. Then select OK when


prompted to restart VMD.

Step 15: After the software has restarted, do not datum the machine
before loading the machine configuration. This function is
different than the software commissioning that was done
prior.

To load the machine configuration for SP2, Log On as the


Admin as explained in step 13.

This will Populate the configuration.wap window on to the


screen. Select the button at the bottom of the window
stating Load Configuration. Select the configuration that best
matches the machine. *Do not put a check mark next to the
name of the file as this will lead to issues later.* Then select
the OK button at the bottom right corner of the window.

Step 16: Before exiting the Configuration.wap window, select the


Factory Reset button in the Basic tab, located under the Axis
Settings. This will display a window stating VMD needs to
restart for changes to take effect. Select OK to acknowledge
the warning, then close out of the VMD software. This does
not require a shut down of the machine.

Restart the VMD software and begin operating the machine.
