Ocean is the planet´s most extensive source, simultaneously representing our biggest
rubbish. This results contradictory, while the ocean sustains a huge biodiversity and
provides vast economic benefits, human activities risk our health and sustainability.
Study this complex issue requires global efforts which touches several points.
Overfishing plays the role of being one of the main problems. Starting with the constant
extraction of marine life disrupts ecosystems, leading to the extinction of species and the
collapse of local fisheries. Furthermore, sustainable fishing practices, applied by
regulations and promoting aquaculture, can extinct this practices. This is also put in
parctices with the gases emission, benefiting those who does not overcome the limit.
The rise of water's temperature caused by climate change also represents a worry to
society. Warmer seas disturb marine habitats, inducing the whitening of corals and the
migration of species. Carbon and greenhouse gasses´ emision are primordial.
Additionally, the inversion in renewable energy can mitigate climate change rhythm and
its effects over the ocean.
Dead zones, areas low of oxygen. Often caused by agricultural runoff, these zones
decimate marine life. Implementing sustainable agricultural practices, such as precision
farming and the reduction of chemical fertilizers, can significantly decrease the formation
of new dead zones.
Despite these challenges, the ocean's economic potential remains the same, encompassing
fisheries, tourism... By promoting sustainable practices and developing eco-friendly
industries, we can take advantage of this potential without compromising the ocean's
health.
Education plays a pivotal role in this landscape. Raising public awareness about the
ocean's trouble and fostering a sense of administration can lead to behavioral change.
This initiative would give a point of view to citizens, and raise awareness about what is
really happening outside.
