How to straighten curly hair

Speci c purpose- To inform my audience how to straighten curly hair

Thesis- It is a struggle to straighten curly hair and keep it from frizzing up and getting every
strand straight.

Walking around with half straight and half curly/frizzy hair is not appealing nor pretty.

Reason to listen: One of the hardest hairstyles for curly haired people is to get it straight and
even, and not damage it so much at the same time.

Thesis statement: It is a struggle to straighten curly hair and keep it from frizzing up and getting
every strand straight.

Credibility statement: I myself struggled for years to gure out how to straighten my own curly
hair without help or going to the salon.
It is something I do every winter since I love straight hair more then curly. It is expensive
sometimes getting it done at a salon. So to save money since I do it a lot over the years I
taught myself.

Preview of main points:

A. How to keep it from damaging
B. How to actually straighten it
C. How to keep it straight and healthy after math

A. How to keep it from damaging

I. There are many ways to keep it from damaging such as, using a heat protectant and this
goes for any type of hair.
Some brands that o er hair protectant I recommend are TRESemme, Aussie Total Miracle,
Garnier, and CHI. I speci cally use the Garnier just because its the one my mom buys.
II. According to shape.com it states “Using a heat protectant for hair can mask damage from
heat application but won't prevent the e ects in the rst place”
III. Not a requirement just strongly suggested

B. How to actually straighten it

I. To actually start we want clean washed hair. So, any way one would usually wash their own
hair.
II. Scrub shampoo and leave for 2-5 mins. Wash out.
III. Put conditioner leave for 3-6 mins and wash out.
IV. Either let hair air dry or use the blow dryer. When using the blow dryer try to get every
section dry, because if you use heat on wet hair it will damage your hair. And also spray the
heat protectant on damp hair before using any heat tools. According to birdie.com it states,
“"Hair is weakest when it's wet, and high heat from a straightener can turn the water in the
hair into steam, leading to hair breakage and damage to the cuticle”. “This can result in
frizz, split ends, and sometimes even a burnt smell.”
V. Once its all dry part your hair into small sections. Using hair clips and such.
VI. Now the iron part. When hair is divided into sections you start to iron from top to middle.
And then top to bottom. Depending on how frizzy the hair, might have to pass the iron
about 3 times top to bottom. Do that for all over your hair.
VII. When you get to the section by your ears carefully iron from top to bottom about 4 times
downwards. These part are the trickiest because it stays frizzy and curly if not done
correctly.
VIII.Also the baby hairs too, so again carefully iron them downward and try not to burn yourself.
These hairs are very tiny and very curly so it can be a struggle.

IX. Once whole head is done, pass the iron again over general sections of hair. At the top there
will be y aways so what I do is the take the iron and put it at on top or try to iron the tiny
hairs.
X. Finally iron the ends of your hair.

C. Finally to keep it straight and healthy

I. Add any oil that’s not for curly hair obviously.
II. Rake it through ends of hair and tap very lightly on top of hair.
III. An alternative is to use hairspray and spray evenly all around from a distance.
IV. Fix any little hairs that need xing
V. And Your done
