People all over the world have ideas about British food- the breakfasts are huge, fish and
chips is
the national dish, the food is boring. But how true is this?

It is true that traditional English breakfast is a large meal. The full traditional English
breakfast is
fried eggs, bacon, mushrooms, sausages, beans and toast. Not a lot of people eat this every
day now.
People will usually have a toast and cereal.

The British usually have lunch at some time between 12 o'clock and 2 o'clock. This is usually
a
small meal like a salad or a sandwich. Sandwich shops are very popular in the UK.

Then the evening meal is normally at 6 or 7 o'clock. It is some meat, two kinds of vegetables
and
potatoes. These days people like to cook food from all over the world. There are many
cooking
shows on the TV, and this helps to try new things.

When they go out to eat, the British hardly ever have fish and chips. That is usually a
takeway
meal. Indian food is probably the most popular in the UK, but you can find restaurants from
all over
the world here: Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Japanese. The British really like trying new types
of food
when they eat out.

One thing is true. They really drink lots of tea. The average British drinks three cups of tea a
day,
but many people drink much more than that. Beer is also a national drink, but wine is
becoming
more popular every year.
