THIS GOOGLE DOCS WILL NO LONGER BE UPDATED. IF THERE IS A MISTAKE HERE, IT IS
LIKELY FIXED IN THE GOOGLE SITE.
Hello everyone,
Unfortunately nothing built can last forever. So eventually Minecraft Story Mode got shut down. I
recently saw a post talking about how annoying the posts are asking how to get the game in 2024. So
I’ve decided to make a megathread.
Yes, this guide will involve sailing the seven seas, but I’ll provide alternatives if you don’t want to pirate
(not recommended, it costs an arm and a leg, you aren’t supporting the devs and you’re risking getting
scammed). It’s nearly impossible to get the game properly right now, even if you don’t pirate the game,
you’re just helping greedy scalpers, Telltale and Mojang will not profit. Most of the posts on the
Minecraft Story Mode Subreddit nowadays are either “guys hoe i get the game in android phone” or,
“which disk do i get?” This megathread will hopefully lessen the amount of these posts and help others
in getting the game in working order. It will also hopefully prevent a lot of misinformation and people
getting malware.
A normal disc that just says “Minecraft Story Mode” contains the first 5 episodes of season 1. These
episodes are not on the disc apart from Episode 1. So if you’re purchasing for a console with a shut
down store (currently only Xbox 360, though PS3 could be soon) you won’t be able to play the other
episodes.
There is/was a digital version of episodes 6-8 called the “Adventure Pass”. It can/could be applied to
the mobile version of the game (no longer possible, not even when restoring a purchase), and any
“Season Pass” version of the game. (No longer possible on Xbox 360 and PS3.) Also worth at least
mentioning that it is available on the PS4 store and Xbox One store as well, although it is useless
without a physical copy.
“Complete Adventure” disc/cartridge contains all the episodes for Season 1. (Only version available of
Season 1 for Wii U and Switch) this version contains all of the Episodes on it, so buying for Xbox 360 is
ok.
“Minecraft Story Mode Season Two” disc/cartridge is the second season of the game. The episodes
need to be downloaded, so again, if you’re on a console with a discontinued store (Xbox 360) you can
only play episode one unless you hack your console. This is not available for any PS3 or Wii U system.

Torrent Clients
FTP Clients
FTP, or “File Transfer Protocol” is a computer protocol which allows the distribution of files over the web.
These clients are useful because they allow you to transfer roms and isos to hacked consoles wirelessly.
Here are some FTP clients I recommend:
- WinSCP is a popular client. The UI is nice, complete with progress bars and a way to save
presets. Download it for free from the official website here
https://winscp.net/eng/download.php
- Filezilla is also very popular, the ui is similar to WinSCP, with the same features. Honestly it’s up
to personal preference about which client you use. Download Filezilla here

- Physical Discs
Currently, the Complete Adventure is the only disc that will work physically. Attempting to download any
episodes will result in an error which basically translates to “This content is not available on the store
anymore.”
“No, the store has not shut down (yet), you can still currently buy other games/DLCs that aren't
delisted. But it's a quirk of how the Xbox 360 versions of Telltale games worked. The season pass would
act as an entitlement that would let you "purchase" the DLCs for free, but the Xbox Live marketplace
would still treat them as purchases. As such, like with other games, once they're delisted, you can no
longer "purchase" them, but you can still re-download them if you had purchased them previously.
The Xbox One version and other newer gen versions work differently - the DLCs are linked to the disc
itself, i.e, the season pass disc acts as a license for all subsequent episodes. Hence why physical copies
of those versions still work today and can/will download episodes automatically. But on the Xbox 360
version, it was just an entitlement as I mentioned and not an actual license on the disc.”
- Homebrew
I’d recommend buying a pre-modded unit off eBay, since the average joe would have issues performing
this precise mod. If you want to do it yourself, follow a guide to install an RGH modchip, and a tutorial
to install all the necessary stuff. I’m not responsible if you break or brick your console from doing this.
Please keep in mind that some Xbox 360 E consoles have a type of motherboard called “Winchester”
(most 360 E consoles bought new after the Xbox One’s launch) which is not moddable. It should also be
mentioned that the v3-5 revisions of the Xbox 360 “Corona” motherboard (most later Slim boards) will
need a postfix adapter for the wires to be soldered to, to make the mod work.
Using the extracted iso taken from a site (Myrient is the one I recommend and use) you can run the
game via JTAG or RGH using Aurora off a usb or the internal drive. Extract the files from an iso using
Xbox 360 Image Browser. You can also optionally convert the file back to iso, then to .god format. It’s
up to user preference. However, converting to god is not recommended for S2.
The Myrient dump of The Complete Adventure is reported to have a blackscreen issue. This is fixable by
enabling the following in Aurora:
Content patching, XBLA Patching, License Patching.
It could also be an issue with S2, but I don’t have a unit to test it with. If it blackscreens, follow the
above again.
Getting Season Two to have all the episodes is a doozy so I’ll explain it best I can.
You need to download the iso and extract it normally. This will only come with Episode One, however,
before you install the episodes, you need to update the game via Aurora. Next go to Myrient’s Digital
Xbox 360 Content Archive, and download episodes 2-4. Extract the folders with a zip extractor of your
choice (I personally recommend 7zip.) Using 7zip, select “extract here” and all the episodes will merge
into a folder called “584114C6”, this folder needs to be placed in the games files at Content >
0000000000000000. If you’re having trouble, Modded Warfare made a great guide for installing dlc on
a hacked 360.
- Physical Discs
Complete Adventure Disc is the only version to get unless you’re collecting. Buy it off eBay or another
trusted site of your choice. Avoid mercari because it’s notorious for scams.
- Homebrew
Download the Complete Adventure .iso off of Myrient. You’ll need to decrypt the iso by mounting it with
an iso mounting software, use PS3 ISO Dumper to dump the game files and use PS3 ISO Tools to
compile it back to iso. Use FTP transferring to your PS3 and boot it via MultiMAN or play it on a
USB/External Hard Drive via WebMAN. Be sure to download the Complete Adventure version if you
want all the episodes. The file directory to put the decrypted iso file is “devhdd0 > PS3ISO”. A good
tutorial for adding cfw to your console can be found here. For later Slim users and Super Slim users, a
guide for HEN can be found here. You can check if your console needs HEN or CFW by visiting this
website on your system.
Note: The latest 4.91 firmware relies on a beta EvilNAT version, and may be missing features, but it
should still work fine.
- Physical Discs
Any disc will work, no problems here. All episodes entitled to your disc (see: about each version of the
game) are downloadable from the Microsoft store. Apparently if you own the Season Pass disc
(episodes 1-5) you can buy the Adventure Pass (episodes 6-8) as well, but I haven’t tested this.
- Homebrew
Nothing is possible here. The closest anyone has gotten to “jailbreaking” an Xbox One is this guy, who
used an emulator to get the Xbox 360 version working via exploiting the Xbox 360 backward
compatibility in developer mode.
Note: It should be said that this method is likely to be unstable. The game has not been played through
like this yet and is possible to have game breaking glitches (similar, see: Android Architecture changes)
Note from Droid: Played through Episode 1 like this, no way of getting the other episodes I know of (see:
Xbox 360 section), but playing it wasn’t horrible. FPS and gameplay was fine, but the shadows and
lighting were a little weird at times.
- Physical Discs
Again, all discs work. All episodes that are entitled to you for the specific copy (see: About each version
of the game) are downloadable and work fine.
- Homebrew
You’d need a jailbreakable PS4 this means that you need to be at firmware 9.03 or lower. Here is a good
guide to hack a PS4.
Get a rom here, or torrent here.
- Physical Discs
Complete Adventure works fine. It’s the only release for the system so really not much to say here. No
way to get Season Two because it never released on the Wii U, perhaps because of poor sales.
- Homebrew
Wii U USB Helper will work for the Complete Adventure. A guide to install Wii U USB Helper can be
found here. You can alternatively download the rom from Mariocube or Myrient.
- Cartridges
All cartridges work fine, only the complete adventure is available for S1. But they’re extremely
expensive. Buy them off of Amazon or another trusted site.
- Homebrew
Here is a good guide to hack your switch. Here is a guide to load Switch games.
Get the games at nxbrew.com or rpgonly.com make sure to use an adblocker Use a hacked/mod
chipped Switch to boot the .xci or .nsp file. S2 episodes come pre-installed.
Warning! You probably know this already, but having a hacked Switch may get it banned from
accessing the internet and Nintendo’s servers. I’d recommend keeping all your hacked stuff on your
EmuNand and your legit stuff on your SysNand.
Note: The difference between .nsp and .xci files is that NSP files are files ripped from the eshop, you’ll
get banned if you install one of these on your sysnand. .xci files are files ripped from cartridges. They
have a smaller chance of being banned, but the chances are still high.
First, you need to check if your iPhone can be jailbroken. There is a comprehensive list of jailbreaks with
their corresponding jailbreaks here. If your iOS version is not jailbreakable, you need to activate a dev
account. Prices vary per region for an account activation. You can activate one here.
You will next need to download the iOSGods client from the iOSGods website. You’ll go through the
setup process of enabling the profile in settings. Once that’s done, download the episodes from the
client and you’re all set.
Download an apk from PDALife or APKaward. Install the .apk on your android device.
Go to your device settings and tap Apps & Notifications (or Apps in older versions of Android).
Tap the three dots in the upper-right corner.
Tap Special access.
Tap Install unknown apps.
Tap Chrome (or whichever web browser you use)
Move Allow from this source to the On position.
Or transfer the apk via usb. Plug the phone into your computer and drag and drop the apk.
Next, install the .obb file by dragging and dropping the contents of the extracted folder into the
Android/obb/com.telletalegames.minecraft100” (folder name is
Android/obb/com.telletalegames.minecraft200 for Season 2 but you get the idea)
Note: As Android phones’ architecture becomes increasingly different to hardware from 2018, MCSM will
grow increasingly unstable with every new phone and software update. Some minor to major graphical
glitches will almost certainly occur. It should also be said that you need to download the proper apk for
your device (eg: Mali or Adreno). If you don’t, everything will appear dark, textures will not show up etc.
Google is your best friend for checking your GPU.
Below: Examples
Note: It seems that S2 is a lot more stable than S1. Many people have reported fatal errors on S1, while
S2 works near flawlessly
- Legitimately
You can buy a dvd-rom disc off of Amazon, eBay or another trusted site, Season Two’s PC physical copy
does not contain episodes 2-5 and there is no way to download the episodes without pirating it (ie: It’s
a waste of money.) Steam keys are a mixed bag. You may get your account suspended, the game taken
and you also can easily get scammed. It isn’t worth the risk and the only people you’ll be supporting are
the greedy scalpers who play exorbitant prices for the game, but if you’re insistent on it, get a key from
G2A.
- Yarr!
Download off of Steamrip or torrent off Fitgirl Repacks.
Use an adblocker and if you’re torrenting and VPN (virtual private network)
Another method is loading it onto Steam as a non-Steam game. This also works with any Windows
game or application. Load your game into Steam as normal by going into Library, then clicking the
“Add a game” button, and then “Add a Non-Steam game”. Import the game and then click on the game
options, then Properties. Under compatibility, click “Force use of Steam Play” or something similar. The
game should launch normally through Steam. If you’d like to add custom art to the page, you can find
art here: https://www.steamgriddb.com/.
The site used to be semi-alright but they’ve implemented adware hijackers into their site, malicious
redirects, broken Repacks, stolen Repacks.
SteamUnlocked: - They are known to upload games stolen from IGG-games which has malware and
their own form of DRM - They delete and laugh at comments calling them out for horrible things - They
hacked a person's Google account and tried to drain the Google Pay account after they had called out
the steamunlocked team - Dodgy redirects and slow download speeds - You often have no idea who
actually made the crack of the game which is unsafe IGG-Games: - Ads built into the game at runtime:

The MCSM Netflix Archive has you covered. The five episodes that were on Netflix are done as of right
now, with female Jesse coming soon. There’s no plans to add the adventure pass episodes yet. You can
view their content here.
They also host all the Netflix metadata that can be found in the media section of this megathread. Dubs
can be found on their discord server.
That’s right, someone is porting Season Two to YouTube, similarly to the Netflix project. Three out of the
Five Episodes are available right now. The episodes are available here.
The Adventure Pass (Episodes 6-8) are in beta as well on YouTube, but not public as of now. Check the
channel here.
While MCSM was never released on the Vita, it's worth mentioning that MCSM is playable on the system
via remote play with an internet connection and a PS4 system.
Note: A lot of people mention an android emulator for Vita, (YoYo Vita Loader) the loader cannot play
MCSM on Vita because it was not made with the game engine that the loader is compatible with.
It’s also possible that MCSM could be ported via the Renpy engine. Someone made a proof of concept
on Reddit a while ago.
Other Media n’ Junk
Archive of Trailers: The archive for the Netflix trailers and a ton of other things can be found on the
Netflix Archive channel linked above, as for the normal ones, you can find them here (insert link)
Note: Includes the elusive Google Play winter trailer with the Jesse and Axel snowball fight
Coming soon. PLEASE let me know if you have scans of the box/disc arts for some versions of the game
Beta Stuff:
Well, now that I’m here, I should probably talk about the definitive way to play the game.
PC:
Easily the definitive way to play. Graphics are adjustable, mods are supported and the frame rate is the
most stable (depending on your PC) Easily pirated and Steam keys are sometimes available too. Both
seasons supported
Xbox One/PS4:
Discs are currently at a fair price, episodes are downloadable, game itself runs great, both Seasons
playable. No current way to pirate on Xbox One, but the new PS4 hack makes for the game to be easily
obtainable.
Switch:
Game only runs at 720p, runs at 30fps with a fair few frame drops. Piracy is possible on modded
devices. Physical copies are extremely expensive and hard to come by.
Xbox 360:
The game runs similarly to the switch version, but with a fair bit more lag in S2. Episodes are not
downloadable for physical copies anymore, so if you want to play S2, an RGH or JTAG mod is needed.
PS3:
The game is basically identical to the Xbox 360 version, but is choppier in more demanding areas
(PAMA bossfight absolutely chugs.) Season Two is not available for this platform. Physical copies are
very cheap (20-30 USD) and piracy is incredibly easy with the EvilNAT/HEN softmod.
Wii U:
Physical copies are still fairly pricey and hard to come by. Game runs at 720p with numerous frame
drops and save glitches. I don’t see much reason to play this version apart from if you only have a Wii
U. Piracy is easy as pie with Wii U’s TiramisU exploit.
iOS/Android:
Game does not run well at all. Roughly 25fps at 544p. the iOS version is a pain to obtain due to
requiring a jailbreak, and the Android install is time-consuming. Android has fatal issues on more recent
devices, with severe texture glitches, sound glitches and crashes.
Netflix/YouTube:
I can’t really rank this version because it tries to be more of a TV show with interactive elements than a
proper game. Up against the other versions it seems to be a watered-down mess, but as its own
independent entity, it serves well. Graphics are pre-rendered and look cleaner, and the version is
available for free on YouTube.
Phew! That was a lot, I hope this helps you on your journey, adventurers!
