ACTIVITY 1
Task 1: DIRECTIONS: Using exemplification and definition, write an essay about your hobby/s or
anything that you love to do during your free time. It should be at least 500 words. Use the
rubrics below to serve as your guide.

What are my hobbies?

Hobby means an activity that you enjoy doing in your spare time. It is part of your growing up,
which help to show your talents and improve your skills. Everyone have their own hobbies for example
watching movies, listening to music, playing music instrument, dancing, singing and more. For some
people working was very stressful but for some people it is not because working can be also hobby it is
just depends on how can people enjoy their spare time. In other words, hobbies have a part in your life
because it was the reason you are happy and can enjoy things.

Like I said in the first paragraph, everyone have their own hobbies so even a teenager like me
have a hobby. My hobbies is very simple, for example I like watching movies, also reading novels and
manhwa, and even playing games. To be specific, I liked using gadgets so that I can do my hobbies. It
is very important in my life because even though I’m tired doing school works I can still be able to be
happy because I know that if I finish all of this I can start to do what I want. If I am going to put it in
another way my hobbies also an inspiration because it is like a trophy that I can get after a tiring day.

My hobbies not only help me to pass my spare time but I also discovered many things. For
example is friendship, because of my hobbies I discovered my friends who have the same hobbies as
mine. And Little by little I also starting to understand more in English language because of watching
foreign movies or series and reading. Based from my experience my hobbies change if I will going to
compare my hobbies when I am a child and now. I can guess that the reason maybe because of the
advancing technology which continuously to change what is worth of my time. I start from the things
that wanting to be free like playing outside with my friend. And now I am in the process of adulting, I
can feel that I am starting to experience that it becoming hard that I can’t do my hobbies anymore.
But I do not worry because I know that I can still be able to became happy even in a tiring day.

To summarize, my hobby is also my source of happiness. Even a tiring day can still allow you to
laugh and be happy. Things that I really want to do, things that I can enjoy, things that help me to
survive even if a problem comes, things that help me to improve as a person, things that help me to
experience friendship, things that can be improved, and things that help me to be able to recognize
myself are the things that I will treasure, and that thing is my hobbies. Do the things that make you
happy, but still you need to have a boundary, to clarify, a hobby cannot destroy someone or yourself
because a hobby is a thing that helps you to enjoy, not destroy.

ACTIVITY 2
Task 1: DIRECTIONS: Read and study the following passage and answer the following questions.
Passage 1

Passage 2

The flower that I gave to my mother on Mother’s Day was still displayed in the
living room; still fresh just like how it looks-like when I bought it from the flower
shop. It is a red rose with three leaves still intact on its long thornless green stem.
I wonder how my mother maintained its beauty despite it’s already been a week
since I gave it to her?

1. What have you notice in the following passage?

I noticed that in the first passage, its like it telling a time order or like process and on the second passage is
like describing the flower.

2. How text 1 is different in text 2 in terms of structure and patterns?

The text 1 use chronological and text 2 use description

3. What is your basis in your answer?

Because in the text 1, the passage is like telling on how Neil Armstrong landed to the moon and in the text 2 is
because when you describe something you can somehow picture it to your mind when reading it and me as a
reader I can picture on how the author describe the flower.

Task 2: DIRECTIONS: Using Chronology and Description, write an essay about “The Evolution of
Communication: From Letters to Smartphones”. It should be at least 500 words. Use the rubrics
below to serve as your guide.
The Evolution of Communication: From Letters to Smartphones

Communication has a very big part in everyone’s life, it is the reason why our society and
technology continuously to evolve. Communication means sending or receiving information, or, in other
words, it is the exchanging of information. Because of that, we humans learned everything from others
from the past and now the present. Because also of technology’s evolution, our way of communication
also evolves.

Before, letters became popular in the 18 th century, when many people did communicate with
others. To make it clear, the first-ever recorded handwritten letter was in 500 BC, but it’s not that
popular, and in the 18th century, which was also the Great Age of Letter Writing, letters became popular
in communication. The adaptation of letters is due to the fact that it showed how easy and convenient
communication could be. In the same century, the first-ever telephone was invented. The Italian
innovator Antonio Meucci invented the telephone in 1876, this telephone allowed people to
communicate over wires in real time. Later on, the first commercial radio station went on the air on
November 2, 1920. Guglielmo Marconi, known as the father of radio, invented the first wireless radio
signal in 1901 and transmitted the first transatlantic radiotelegraph message in 1902. Radio became
important, especially in giving information or news, because it can give real-time information to others.
Afterward, in 1939, World War II started. This war not only affected the economy, society, and
environment, but communication was affected too. During WWII, the centralization of military
communications was a priority, focusing on wire, wireless radio, and radar technologies for common-
user use. It gives an impact in the field of communication, especially the use of wireless radio and radar
technologies. In 1947, Bell Laboratories had introduced the idea of cellular communications.

Cellular communication refers to the popular method of connecting people in real-time and
transmitting data. This technology enabled global business expansion, expedited communication
during wartime, and enhanced access to emergency services and healthcare. Later on, on October 4,
1957 the first ever artificial satellite also known as Sputnik I was launched. Sputnik I primary function
was to place a radio transmitter into orbit around the Earth so that it can improve communication. In
1969, the internet begins where it is considered a key turning point in computer technology. Internet
begins with ARPANET or Advanced Research Projects Agency Network and later developed into what we
recognize as the internet today, which became available for public access in 1991. In 1973, mobile
phone was invented where it changed the way people communicate and interact with each other. The
mobile phone continuously to evolve which our smartphone came from. Smart phone allow us to
communicate with other easily by simply pushing a button or tapping a screen. It also helps us to
communicate without physical interaction by just using some application and the internet.
Communication still continues to evolve so that it can create more convenience in how people
communicate.

Humans are social beings, so communication is very necessary so that we can create more
things and produce new ideas with others. The evolution of communication not only tells us how it can
change people’s lives but also tells us the importance that communication can do to every aspect and
field. Starting from using symbols and sounds to communicate to our smartphones today, which gave
us convenience, will soon evolve. The communication that helps to create more things and understand
each other will be very important in everyone’s life.

ACTIVITY 1
Task 1: DIRECTIONS: Using the Venn diagram compare the difference between plants and animals in
the given example above.

There are several characteristics which distinguish plants from animals. Green plants
are able to manufacture their own food from substances in the environment. This
process is known as photosynthesis. In contrast, animals, including man, get their
food either directly from plants or indirectly by eating animals which have eaten
plants. Plants are generally stationary. Animals, on the other hand, can usually move
about. In external appearance, plants are usually green. They grow in a branching
fashion at their extremities, and their growth continues throughout their lives.
Animals, however, are very diverse in their external appearance. Their growth
pattern is not limited to their extremities. It is evenly distributed and only occurs in a
definite time period. Therefore, the differences between plants and animals are quite
significant. Animals

Task 3: DIRECTIONS: Using Comparison & Contrast, write an essay about “Online Learning vs.
Traditional Classroom Learning: Examining Benefits and Challenges”. It should be at least 500
words. Use the rubrics below to serve as your guide.

Online Learning vs. Traditional Classroom Learning: Examining Benefits and Challenges

Education provides us with knowledge about the world. It helps us to gain information about the
world’s history, mathematics and sciences, different arts, language, and in surviving. In education, the
way of giving information is very important for example, face-to-face traditional classroom learning.
The traditional classroom learning is the best way of giving information, especially to those students
who can’t learn without others teaching them. As the pandemic struck, traditional classroom learning
was stopped, online learning became popular, especially to students who had smartphones with
internet access. And now that we are back to normal classes, some students still prefer online learning
to traditional classroom learning, but some are not.

The reason of many students prefer online classes is because of the advantage in terms of
flexibility, which it provides the convenience of studying at our own pace and location. On the other
hand, traditional classroom learning, or TCL, requires a fixed schedule and location. But the learning
style can be a big problem for online learning because it involves self-directed learning. On the
contrary, TCL uses face-to-face interaction, which can give some benefits for students, especially to
students who learn with physical interaction or with a teacher in front. Traditional education provides
resources that can be a big help in learning because you can learn and see it face to face. Despite of
the internet cost and smartphone, online learning is still low cost compared to traditional because it
didn’t require students to go to school, which can cost high if they will do it 5 times a week. Likewise,
the student is still required to attend classes and learn.
The internet is one of the major problems of online classes because even though a student has
internet, it can’t guarantee its speed. In a similar situation to the traditional way, our resources can’t be
guaranteed either. Our country is one of the poor, so it’s expected that education’s resources and
support can be a problem, so it can affect our learning. Because of the two-year lockdown, it led to
students feeling disengaged from the material and not enjoying the learning process because we are
used to online learning. Compared to the traditional way, online learning can have distractions because
it uses smartphones. On the other hand, the traditional way does not have a distraction if the student
is ready to learn. Using technology and applications can be hard for some students because of their
limited knowledge, which can cause a downside to online learning, but because it can be learned, it can
be changed in the future. The two modes of learning have different benefits and challenges but still can
give information and can teach others.

Overall, the two modes of learning are pretty similar in terms of using resources, even if we can
get them in different ways. The difference can also be a downside and a good side of each learning
style. But the way of learning is depends on what a student prefers and to the fact that everyone has
their own learning style. Education is about giving information and teaching, so even if the two have
different teaching styles, we can still get information.
