The document outlines various types of quantitative research, including descriptive, correlational, causal-comparative, and experimental research. It details methods used in descriptive research, main types of quasi-experimental designs, and types of experimental research designs. Additionally, it highlights fields where quantitative research is commonly applied, such as anthropology, medicine, psychology, social science, business, and communication.

LONG QUIZ REVIEWER

KINDS OF QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH:

 Descriptive Research – a kind of research used to understand the current state of a variable without
manipulating it.
 Correlational Research – a research method that examines relationships between fixed variables without
manipulation.
 Causal-Comparative/Quasi-Experimental Research – a research method is used to identify a cause and effect
relationship between two variables, where one variable is dependent and another is independent.
 Experimental Research – it is a research that is guided by a specific hypothesis or hypotheses.

METHODS USED IN DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH:

 Observation – often used to gather data without relying on survey respondents' honesty or accuracy.
 Surveys – are often used to gather a large amount of data that can be analyzed for frequencies, averages, and
patterns.
 Case studies – can be used to gather detailed information to identify characteristics of a narrowly defined
subject.

MAIN TYPES OF QUASI-EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH DESIGNS:

 Nonequvalent Groups - a type of quasi-experimental design which involves groups that are similar, but only one
experiences treatment or variable.
 Regression Discontinuity - a type of quasi-experimental design that involves assigning participants based on an
arbitrary cutoff.
 Natural Experiment - These experiments are observational and are not considered true experiments.

TYPES OF EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH DESIGNS:

 Pre-Experimental – The experimental research design used to understand if further research is necessary for the
observed groups.
 True Experimental – The experimental research design that uses random sampling and statistical analysis to test
hypotheses.
 Quasi-Experimental – The experimental research design in which participants are not chosen at random.

FIELDS WHERE QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH IS COMMONLY APPLIED:

 Anthropology – the field where quantitative research is used to analyze fossils and DNA remnants.
 Medicine –
 Psychology –
 Social Science –
 Business – the field where quantitative research helps improve marketing strategies and make informed
business decisions.
 Communication – the field where quantitative research helps people understand communication phenomena
and direct their communication towards accomplishing individual and organizational goals.
