An Evaluation of the impact of current and

emerging technologies on the design of computer
games

Visual Realism and Graphics: Current Technologies Visually attractive games are
made possible by sophisticated rendering techniques, realistic physics engines, and
high quality images.

Emerging Technologies: Real-time ray tracing, 4K and 8K resolutions, and ray

tracing help create graphics that are even more lifelike and captivating.

Play and Interaction: Present-Day Technology Virtual reality (VR) and augmented
reality (AR) have brought new types of gaming interaction.

Novel Technologies: Haptic feedback systems and mixed reality (MR) improve
player immersion by enabling richer tactile and sensory experiences.

Procedural Content Generation with Artificial Intelligence (AI):

Current Technologies: AI is utilised in games to simulate NPC behaviour and make
strategic decisions.

Emerging Technologies: Procedural generation automatically builds large, unique

gaming worlds, while machine learning allows AI to be dynamic and adaptive.
Gaming Platforms and Streaming: Modern Technologies: The main gaming
platforms include computers, consoles, and mobile devices. High-end games can be
played on low-end hardware thanks to cloud gaming services.

Novel Technologies: Because game streaming services rely on edge computing

and fast internet connections to deliver low latency gaming, they do away with the
need for powerful hardware

NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) and Blockchain:

Present-day Technology: Microtransactions and in-game purchases are popular
and give game producers additional sources of income.

Emerging Technologies: NFTs and blockchain allow for real ownership of in-game
goods, promoting player-driven economies and producing one-of-a-kind, authentic
digital assets.

Multiplayer and Social Experiences:

Present-day Technology: Social elements and online multiplayer games are essential
components of gaming.

Novel Technologies: More immersive and community-driven interactions are

encouraged by decentralised gaming networks and enhanced social VR
experiences.

Inclusivity and Accessibility:

Current Technologies: Games can now be customised with features and controls that
make them more accessible to players with disabilities.

Emerging Technologies: More inclusive gaming experiences are made possible by

haptic feedback, AI-driven voice recognition, and eye-tracking technologies.

Environmental Impact: Modern Technologies: There are worries over how the
manufacturing and energy use of gaming devices may affect the environment.

Emerging Technologies: Green hardware designs, data centres powered by

renewable energy, and sustainable gaming activities all address environmental
issues.

Tools for Game Design and Development:

Current Technologies: Developers can use strong tools thanks to game engines
like Unity and Unreal Engine.
Emerging Technologies: Cloud-based development platforms that facilitate
collaboration and AI-powered game design assistants simplify the game production
process.

Data Analytics and Personalization:

Data Analytics and Personalization:

Current Technologies: Game companies use player data for targeted marketing and
game analytics.

Emerging Technologies: Predictive analytics and AI-driven personalization create

tailored gaming experiences based on player behaviour and preferences.
