The house at the Zaragoza Street number 57 belonged to Teresa,

who was the wife of the catalan artist Tàpies.

It is located in the Putget Farró neighborhood in the Sarrià-Sant

Gervasi district. This neighborhood consists of two large cores
EL FARRÓ separated by the Ronda General Mitre: El Putget to the north and
El Farró to the south.

The El Farró neighborhood is structured vertically around the

streets Vallirana and Zaragaza where narrow and elongated
plots are built perpendicular to them.

In most cases, the houses on the plots in El Farró only had up to

three floors: ground floor with two upper floors. However, the
main floor was always higher due to the difference in height
between the floors and usually reached 12 meters.

INTERNAL ORGANIZATION //

The staircase takes us to the second floor,

where the private apartment is located. The
sloping views and privacy are of great
importance here. A horizontal plane that limits
the height of the openings hangs from the
ceiling of the second floor and creates a crack
of light that gives the whole a certain light
character. At the same time, the opening
creates a continuous transition from the

terrace to the living room.

LIVING AREA FIRST FLOOR

The last level, which we reach via this

staircase, corresponds to an air floor, which is
divided into two rooms. Facing Zaragoza
Street we have a play area for children, while
inside the block we find a seating area from
which we can go up to the library. Both spaces,
although partially covered, are outdoors. This
is a high garden that separates the house from
the upper volume.

This is again intended to differentiate the

different areas of the house and separate the
living and working areas from each other. It
underlines the hierarchy and the importance
to keep the two different spaces separated.

LIVING AREA WORKING AREA THIRD FLOOR

On the last floor there is a double-height room

with a sculptural fireplace in the center. Two
areas are distinguished in this room: the first
area, which is a kind of living room, and the
second area, which contains the library. The
position and treatment of this floor give it an
idyllic character within the house as a whole.
It relates more to the sky, the immaterial and
ideas. In contrast, the first floor with the
studio-workshop relates more to the

materials, the formal and the concrete work of
art.

THE CASING //

PROYECTO 8 - ANALYSE // CASA ESTUDIO ANTONI TÁPIES , JOSÉ ANTONIO CODERCH

The relationship between the building and the
outside space is resolved by a continuous shell 5.0 en

based on booklet blinds: llambí blinds with a fixed

frame and adjustable slats. The blinds serve as a
lattice on the façades, as a pergola on the terraces
and as a filter for natural light in the workshop.

Due to the fact that the house is located in an

unsightly area, the architect uses the façade to
create its own internal landscape with different
plays of light and exterior open and light spaces.
This allows the owner to retreat to a more pleasant
environment.
