DETAILED LESSON PLAN- Resistor Colour Coding

The lesson plan focuses on teaching students about resistors, specifically resistor color coding, with objectives including defining resistors, memorizing color codes, and identifying procedures. The lesson includes various activities such as a review of previous topics, a motivational 'blind test', and group activities for hands-on learning. Evaluation will be based on identifying resistor values from given color codes, and an assignment is given to study capacitors.

DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN T.LE.

ELECTRONICS

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the student are expected to:
● Define and explain the resistors
● Memorize the color coding
● Identify and perform the procedures of colour coding

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Title: Resistor Colour Coding
Reference: https://www.techtarget.com/whatis/definition/resistance
Materials: LCD Projector, Laptop
Integration: ICT

III. PROCEDURE

1. Preparation
Teacher Activity Student Activity

Good morning class! Good morning ma'am!

Before we start the lesson, we must pray Amen

first. May I call ___ to lead the prayer?

(Checking the attendance)

When I call your name, say present. (Students raise their hand and say present
as their teacher calls each of them.

So, how’s your day? Is it good? Yes ma'am

Class, you seem not in energy today.

Can I ask you to stand and raise your both

hands in the air? Do the stretching and (Students pick up the pieces of paper)
repeat after me. After this, pick up the
pieces of the paper under your chair.

2. Review
Teacher Activity Student Activity

Okay class. In our last topic, the resistor is Resistor is a one of the basic components
__.` in electronics that are designed to limit or
permit a flow current in the circuit

Fixed and Variable Resistors

Okay good! And do you still remember its
types? Fixed Resistors - the value cannot be
change
What are the functions?
Variable Resistors - can change the value
but in the specificied range

3. Motivation
The teacher will show some pictures to determine their visuals which is a “blind test”.

Picture 1 Answer: ?
Very good! Answer: 71

Picture 2
Very good! Answer: 4

Picture 3
Very good! Answer: 12

Picture 4
Very good! Answer: 6

You are all visually healthy. Very good!

4.Lesson Proper

Teacher Activity Student Activity

Let’s begin our main lesson for today. So Resistance is the opposition that a
class, substance offers to the flow of electric
current. It is represented by the uppercase
What is Resistance? May I ask ___ to read letter R,named after German scientist
the first paragraph? and mathematician Georg Simon Ohm
(1787-1845)

Thank you ____. So, basically, the standard

unit of resistance is the ohm, sometimes
written out as a word, and sometimes
symbolised by the uppercase Greek letter
omega Ω.

There are three most important 1. Resistance Nominal Value

characteristics of resistors, what are these? 2. Tolerance
3. Power Rating

Thank you! (The teacher show the samples

of Resistors ).

How does the Resistance of the Resistors

measure?
There are two ways on how to measure it,
by looking in the colour bands and using
the Multi-Tester.
Steps in Determining the Colour Bands in the
Resistors
1. Hold the resistor in horizontal. Look
for the 3 colours that are near to each
other. Place it on your left side.
2. Look for the 1st Color
The first color represents the first digit
3. Look for the 2nd Color band of the resistor.

The 2nd color represents the second digit

4. Look for the 3rd Color band.

The 3rd color represents the multiplier of

5. Find the 4th color the band or number of zeros.

Note: Never use the BLACK as the first digit The 4th color represents the TOLERANCE
band. of the resistor.
Note: In tolerance, the Gold and Silver are
the only colors that can be found in 4th
digit/band.

Note: For 4- bands resistors a gold or silver

band is always the last band.

Note: If there is no tolerance band (±20%),

then the first
band is the one located closest to a
lead.

In mnemonic device, which can help you to

remember easily;

“BB ROY of Great Britain had a Very Good

Wife”

“Bright Boys Rave Over Young Girls But Veto

Getting Wed”

The teacher presents the 2 examples.

Ask the students to answer the following
examples.

5. Activity
Teacher Activity Student Activity

(The teacher will group the students based

on their seats. The left row is the first group
and the rest will follow)

The teacher will give 5 resistors to each (Students will do the activity by grouping
group. consist of 5 members)

Each group must determine the value of the

given resistors and write it down in a ½
crosswise paper with the name of their
members and group number.

You will be given for 5 minutes to answer.

Time starts now!

6. Generalization

Teacher Activity Student Activity

In our lesson today, what have you I have learned that it is important to know
learned? what resistance is and how to read the
colour coded resistor.

What would be the two colours in the

tolerance? It would be Gold and Silver

What are the 4 notes to remember in

reading the color coded resistor? Note: Never use the BLACK as the first digit
band.

Note: In tolerance, the Gold and Silver are

the only colours that can be found in 4th
digit/band.

Note: For 4- bands resistors a gold or silver

band is always the last band.

Note: If there is no tolerance band (±20%),

then the first
band is the one located closest to a
lead.
What are the 2 mnemonic devices that can “BB ROY of Great Britain had a Very Good
help you easily to be remembered in the Wife”
colour bands?
“Bright Boys Rave Over Young Girls But
Veto Getting Wed”

Please give a round of applause for

yourselves.

IV. EVALUATION
Identify the value of resistors with the given resistors.
1. Yellow, Violet, Orange, Gold
2. Orange, Orange, Red, Gold
3. Yellow, Violet, Red
4. White, Yellow,Yellow,Silver
5. Green, Red, Yellow, Blue
V. Assignment
Study in advance in Capacitors and the Capacitance.
