(The teacher will show the video clip)

(Jannah is raising her hand)
- What have you observed from the video
presented?
"I observed that the girl is getting mature, like
Yes, Jannah? before she didn’t care about herself, and now
she does exercise to make herself sexy."
- That’ correct!

- Thank you for your good answer. You may now

take your seat. (Pritch is raising her hand)

- Okay, is anyone of you had different answer? "Based on my observation, the video shows
different changes in a girl and a boy during
Yes, Pritch? puberty."
- Very good! you may now take your seat.

- All your answers are correct because what we are

going to learn today is all about the growth and
development of a person in terms of the changes
during puberty.

Presentation

- Today we will be discussing the growth and

development of a person, and in relation to that,
we will be discussing the changes during puberty,
which help you identify health issues and concerns
during puberty.

- But before that, I want you to listen carefully and

focus on our class discussion.

(Students will follow the instruction)

- Do I understand?
“Yes, Ma’am.”

C. LESSON PROPER

- Earlier, you noticed that I asked you about your

opinion or ideas about the video being presented.
You stated that it is about the changes that occur
during puberty. Which is correct.

- Today, before we start, I want to ask you a (Reynald is raising his hand)
question. In your own words, what is "puberty?"
“For me, ma’am, puberty is the time in life
when a boy or girl becomes sexually mature.”
Yes, Reynald?
- That’s correct. Thank you. You may now take your
seat.

- Puberty is the time in life when a boy or girl

becomes sexually mature. It is a process that
usually happens between ages 10 and 14 for girls
and ages 12 and 16 for boys. It causes physical
changes and affects boys and girls differently.

- There are 3 different changes during puberty:

physical changes, social changes, and emotional
changes.

- First is Physical changes (secondary sexual

characteristics) such as hair growth, voice change,
breast development, and menstruation).
Secondary characteristics are the result of
hormonal changes in the body during puberty.
These changes are faster in girls than in boys.
Some changes are common in both boys and girls
while others are specific to each gender. This is
due to the different hormones released by them.
Growth of pubic hair, facial hair and under the
armpit, increase in height, sweating, etc. are some
of the secondary sexual characteristics.

 Changes developed in girls.

- Their bodies increase in size and shape during

puberty.
- Their hips become more rounded, and they get a
more defined waist.
- The vulva, vagina and nipples get bigger, and the
breasts begin to develop, sometimes unevenly.
- Other changes include pubic hair appearing and a
vaginal discharge – an increase in the mucous
produced in the vagina.
- Start menstruating or having their period during
this time.

- For the girls, do you already have or notice these

physical changes in your body?
(Students will answer based on their opinion)

- What changes did you notice? “Yes, Ma’am.”

Yes, Grace?
(Grace is raising her hand)
- Okay, what else?
"I have my period every month."
Yes, Abby?

"My hips have become rounded."

- Thank you, that means that you are a girl, and your
body develops changes.

 Changes develop in boys.

- Their shoulders and chests become broader, and

their muscles get bigger.
- They may have a temporary swelling of the breasts
as their hormones sort themselves out.
- Hair starts to grow on the face and sometimes the
chest.
- Their voices get deeper and may go up and down
or sometimes sound quite croaky all in one
sentence.
- The penis and testicles will get bigger; they have
more erections, sometimes for no reason. Testicles
usually start producing sperm between 11 and 16
years – at the time they start to grow pubic hair.
- They start to ejaculate and/or reach orgasm when
masturbating and some people will have wet
dreams.

- For boys, what changes in your body have you

noticed?

Yes, Mark? (Mark is raising his hand)

- Okay, another?
"I notice that my voice is getting deeper, and
Yes, Reynald? my muscles are getting bigger."

- Thank you! You may now take your seat.

"My shoulders and chest have become
broader."
Now let’s proceed.

- Second is the Emotional changes. The hormones

that begin the physical changes during puberty
also affect your moods and the way you feel: Some
kids experience quick changes in their moods,
others feel terrific about the changes in
themselves. Many young people become more
interested in their physical appearance and in their
bodies. You might develop romantic feelings
towards one of your peers. Every person is
different, but it is common for all young people to
experience some basic changes. Happiness, love,
anger, frustration, sadness, and sexual feelings
often accompany puberty. Although you might
sometimes feel like your emotions are out of
control, what you are feeling is perfectly natural.

- Third and the last is the social changes. During

puberty, and into adolescence, most young people
want to be more independent. You might notice
that you want to spend more time with your
friends than with your family. Even so, it is also
important to stay close to your family. When you
have questions or concerns about puberty, or
about anything, try talking with an older person
who you trust. This could be a parent, stepparent,
older sister or brother, or another family member
or friend. You can make positive, close
relationships with your friends during your teen
years. Take the time to choose friends who you
think will be good for you.

(Continuation of the Discussion)

- Now, let us know what common health issues and

concerns you have during puberty.

- Does anyone know the one of the different health

issues and concerns during puberty?

Yes, Grace?
- That’s correct! The following are the 9 health (Grace is raising her hand)
issues and concerns during puberty.
“Nutrition, Ma’am.”

1. Nutritional issues
2. Mood swings
3. Body odor
4. Oral health concerns
5. Pimples/Acne
6. Poor Posture
7. Menstruation-related Concerns (Pre-menstrual
Syndrome, Dysmenorrhea, and other abnormal
conditions)
8. Early and Unwanted Pregnancy
9. Sexual Harassment

- This is our last topic, and I will show you a video

about ways to manage puberty-related health
issues and concerns. Please focus and listen
carefully.

(The teacher will show the video clip)

- What can you say about the video?

Yes, Cindie?
(Cindy is raising her hand)

- Very good!
- Another observation? "The video shows ways in which an
adolescent cope with health issues and
Yes, Mark? concerns about their body."
- Correct! What else?
"It shows what an adolescent should do to
Yes, Joshua? maintain cleanliness in their body."

- A very good answer! All your answers are correct.

"It gives us, especially in adolescence, the
The video shows the ways you as an adolescent
knowledge of taking care of our bodies since
take care of your body since you are in the stage of we are in the stage of growing up."
puberty and the importance of knowing how to
deal with noticing different changes in the body.

- In conclusion, during puberty emotional changes

are not important such as changes seen
physically. Parents are seen looking out for
emotional changes during puberty but are not
aware that physical changes appear early.
Changes that come emotionally and feelings of
puberty are a portion of it but do not necessarily
come at initial stages or towards the end.
Transformations that parents identify are a part
of puberty. Kids are fitting and understand
themselves at this time. This can be somehow
problematic and this call for parents being keen
on their children developing emotionally,
physically, and mentally and incase of difficulties
immediately consult an expert.

- Thank you for your cooperation in today’s lesson,

and I hope you learn something from it.
- Any questions, clarifications, violent reactions? If
there’s none, please prepare yourselves for our
activity this morning.

D. ACTIVITY

- Okay, class, for your activity this morning, I want

you to write a reflection on puberty. Your
reflection consists of 500 words and has an
introduction, body, and conclusion. Write your
reflection in a 1 whole sheet of paper.
- I will give you five minutes to do your activity.
After that, you are going to read it in front.

“Your time starts now.”

(After 5 minutes)
(The students read their reflection one by one)
