3. 1) Test the consistency of the following systems and if it is consistent find the solution by using
Gauss Elimination method:
1. x + 2 y + z = 5, 3x − y + z = 6, x + 4 y + z = 7
2. 9 x + 4 y + 3z = −1, 5 x + y + 2 z = 1, 7 x + 3 y + 4 z = 1
3. 3x + 2 y + 4 z = 7, 2 x + y + z = 4, x + 3 y + 5 z = 2
2) Find the solution of following linear system by using Gauss Elimination method:
1. 3𝑥 − 𝑦 − 𝑧 = 0, 𝑥 + 𝑦 + 2𝑧 = 0, 5𝑥 + 𝑦 + 3𝑧 = 0
2. 𝑥 − 2𝑦 − 3𝑧 = 0, 2𝑥 + 3𝑦 + 𝑧 = 0, 𝑥 + 5𝑦 + 𝑧 = 0
3) What conditions must a, b and c satisfy in order for the following system to be consistent?
x + y + z = a , x + z = b, 2 x + y + 2 z = c
4) For which values of ‘a’ will the following system have no solution? Unique solution?
Infinitely many solutions?
𝑥 + 2𝑦 − 3𝑧 = 4, 3𝑥 − 𝑦 + 5𝑧 = 2, 4𝑥 + 𝑦 + (𝑎2 − 14)𝑧 = 𝑎 + 2
5) Test the consistency of the following systems and if it is consistent find the solution by using
Gauss Jordan method:
1. x + y + z = 8, x − y + 2 z = 6, 9 x + 5 y − 7 z = 44
2. 2 x + y − z = 4, x − y + 2 z = −2, − x + 2 y − z = 3
3. x + y + 2 z = 8, − x − 2 y + 3z = 1, 3x − 7 y + 4 z = 10
4. x + y + z = 4, 2 x + 5 y − 2 z = 3, x + 7 y − 7 z = 5
