IS JESUS GOD?

1. DEITY OF JESUS CHRIST

Deity means Good-hood, God-ship, and Fully Divine

The deity of Christ means that Christ was and fully God: This paper purposes to assist
Christians that Jesus was son of God and is God.

2. WHAT THE BIBLE CLAIMS CONCERNING CHRIST DEITY

A) THE VIRGIN BIRTH: The birth implies that Jesus is the son of God which implies
deity; therefore virgin birth implies deity.
B) JESUS DID NOT HAVE AN EARTHLY FATHER
Mary was a virgin (Luke 1:34). Angel Gabriel said she would give birth to a son and
his name would be Jesus (Luke 1:3). He would be great and would be called the son
of the most high and will be called the son of God. (Luke 1:32-35). It will take place
by the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35) for nothing is impossible with God. (Luke 1:37)
C) THE BIRTH OF A SON WITHOUT A HUMAN FATHER
BUT FATHER OF THE MOST HIGH GOD COULD ONLY MEAN THAT JESUS
IS GODS SON.
This clearly means Jesus is the son of God.
3. THE SON OF GOD

Using the term ‘’son of God’’ is the same as saying Jesus is God. By son of God we equally
mean GOD THE SON. By this statement, Jesus used it to crucify him for blasphemy, they
said a mere man claim to be God (John 10:33). They said he called God his own father
making himself equal with God. (John 5:18)

4. EXPLICIT REFERENCES TO THE DEITY OF JESUS

No one has ever seen God but God the one and only who is at the fathers side has made him
known (john 1:18)

Thomas said to him my lord and my God (john 20:28)

Theirs are patriarchs and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ who is God over
all, forever praised, Amen. (Romans 9:5)

While we wait for the blessed hope – the glorious appearing of our great God and saviour,
Jesus Christ (Titus 2:13)

But about the son he says, your throne God will last for ever and ever and righteousness will
be the sceptre of your kingdom (Heb 1:8)
We know also that the son of God has come and given us understanding so that we may know
him who is true and are in him who is true even in his son Jesus Christ. He is the true God
and eternal life. (John 5:20). His father shows that being the son of God is the same as being
God.

This is also brought by the words that God appeared in the body (1 Tim 3:16)

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily firm (col 2:9) for by him all things
were created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible whether thrones or powers or rulers
or authorities all things were created by him and for him he is before all things and in him all
things hold together. (Col 1:16-17)

He is the creator (John 1:3)

His name is Emmanuel, ‘’God with us’’ (matt 1:23)

Isa 9:6 For to us a son is given the government will be on his shoulders and he will be called
wonderful counsellor, mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of peace.

He is the image of the of the invisible God the first born over all creation. (Col 1:15) The son
is the reliance of Gods glory and the exact representation of his being sustaining all things by
his powerful word.

After he had provided purification for sins he sat down at the right hand of the majesty in
heaven (Heb 1:13) Christ is the mirror, image of the father. (Divine mirror, image of the
father)

JESUS IS LORD

The word lord (Gr. Kyrios) used to address a superior roughly equivalent to sir (matt 13:27,
21, 30 27-63, John 4:11)

All also to Greek for translation of the Hebrew old testament for Yahweh translated ‘’lord’’

Kyrios translates the name of the lord 6814 times in the Old Testament.

Lord was used to mean creation the omnipotent God.

Today in the **** of David a saviour has been born to you, he is Christ the lord (Luke 2:11)

But why am I so favoured that the mother of my lord should come from me? (1 Luke 1:43)

Referring to Jesus, John the Baptist cried, prepare the way for the lord (matt 3:3)

Yet for us there is but one God the father from whom all things came and for whom we live
and there is but one lord, Jesus Christ through whom all things came and through whom we
live (1 cor 8:6)
JESUS OWN CLAIM TO DEITY

When he became as a Hebrew boy a man at the age of 12 in Jerusalem (Luke 2:49) Didn’t
you know I had to be in my father’s house?

His baptism, Jesus invited John the Baptist to baptise him to fulfil all righteousness (matt
3:15)

After he was baptised and a voice from heaven said ‘’Thus is my son, whom of love, with
him I am well pleased (matt 3:17)

You are the Christ the son of the living God (matt 16:16) said by peter.

Recognised by the fathers voice when Jesus was transformed (matt 17:5)

JESUS REFERENCE TO HIS ORIGIN AND PRE – EXISTENCE

I am the bread that came down from heaven (John 6:4-51)

The father who sent me has himself testified concerning me (John 5:37)

No one has seen the father except the one who is from God, only he has seen the father (John
6:46)

I am from above, you are of this world, I am not of this world (John 8:23)

I tell you the truth, Jesus answered, before Abraham was born I am (john 8:58) also read EX
3:14.

Anyone who has seen me has seen the father (John 14:9)

And now, father glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world
began (John 17:5)

JESUS REFERING TO HIMSELF AS THE SON OF MAN

The term used 84 times in the four gospels used by only Jesus speaking of himself.

The background of the term is in the vision of prophet David 7:14. The son of man was given
authority, glory and sovereign power, all people’s nations and men of every language
worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away (Dan 7:14).
This speaks of one who had heavenly origin and who was given an eternal rule over the
whole world.

EVIDENCE OF JESUS DEITY

Demonstration of omnipotence: When Jesus stilled the storm with a word (matt 14:19) when
Jesus multiplied the loaves and fish (matt 14:19), when Jesus changed the water into wine
(John 2:1-11)
His eternity: Before Abraham was born, I am (john 8:58). I am the Alpha and the Omega
(Rev 22:13)

His omniscience: Knowing people thoughts (mark 2:5-7) seeing Nathaniel under the fig tree
from far away (john 6:64). The disciples said to him, now we can see that you know all things
(John 16:30 Of John 21:17)

His sovereignty: He could forgive sins (mark 2:5-7). He was referred to as lord (matt 5:22,
28, 32, 34, 39, and 44). He had the authority to reveal the father to whoms over he chose
(matt 11:25-27)

His immorality (cf 1 Tim 6:16)

Only God has immortality. Jesus answered them, Destroy thus temple and I will raise it again
in 3 days. (John 2:19). I have authority to lay down my life and take it up again. This
command is received from my father. (John 10:15-18)

The worship of Jesus commanded and commanded.

The magi came to worship him (Matt 21:11, Cf Matt 8:2). The Angels were told to worship
him (Heb.1:6). Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is
above every name that *** name of Jesus everyone should bow in heaven and on earth and
under the *****

CONCLUSION

Many Christians affirm the Deity (God-hood, God ship and fully Divine of Jesus Christ. But
would be in difficulty if asked to defend it or prove it. The solution is the Bible and the Holy
Scripture Jesus said he was the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father
except through me (****)

If Jesus is not God, the claim of the Christian faith and of the church is not only false; it
would mean that Christianity is a ** and that we are all deceived.

The holy scripture show that JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD AND THEREFORE IS GOD.
