The document discusses the seismic retrofitting of a single-storey steel industrial building, highlighting improvements in global resistance and stiffness through new CBFs and enhanced local performance of MR joints. The retrofitting design promotes ductile mechanisms, allowing for elastic behavior under significant rotation while maintaining the integrity of connections. Overall, the interventions successfully minimize disruption to operations while significantly enhancing the structure's seismic performance and safety margins.

that effectively dissipate seismic energy.

Variations in non-linear behaviour between monotonic and

cyclic analyses arise from cyclic hardening in the column
base material, resulting in higher shear forces at lower
inter-storey drifts under monotonic conditions.

The global behaviour of the retrofitted structure is

summarised in terms of pushover curves and the ADRS
domain.

The strengthening interventions allow for a strong increase

in the elastic stiffness and resistance of the existing
structure up to a complete seismic retrofit. Moreover, lateral
deformability checks for wind action are fulfilled with a
significant safety margin (δC/δD is equal to 4 and 5.7 in X-
and Y-direction). In the Y-direction, minimum cross-sections
were increased to prevent buckling under gravity loads,
while the X-direction met wind deformability requirements
due to seismic dominance. The pushover curves ended at
ductile failure, with maximum diagonal deformation and all
MR joints remaining elastic.

CONCLUSIONS
This paper investigates the effectiveness of low-impact
seismic retrofitting interventions through global and local
numerical analyses on a case study of an existing single-
storey steel industrial building.
